Five Ancestral Temples in Waihai
Many people in Waihai Town have the surname Chen. From the Yuan Dynasty to the 10th year of Zhengzheng (1350), the ancestors of the Chen family moved to Waihai and settled in Waihai. It has a history of more than 600 years. The family has multiplied, and talents have emerged in large numbers in the past generations. The nickname "Longxi" outside the sea was also named by people surnamed Chen to commemorate the people who took refuge in the mountains of Longxi in Zhangzhou, Fujian.
In the past, there were many ancestral halls in Waihai. The most magnificent ones were the "Five Ancestral Halls of the Chen Family in Waihai Town". The five major ancestral halls were located at the foot of Chini Mountain in the eastern part of Waihai, so the country people often called them "Dongtou Ancestral Halls".
The five major ancestral halls of the Chen family are the ancestral halls of the Chen family in Waihai. They were first built during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. The five ancestral halls are closely connected and arranged in rows, creating an extraordinary momentum. The Ancestral Hall of Chen Gong, Xin Yin, the founder of the imperial court, is located at the foot of Chini Mountain. Quanshi Ancestral Hall and Junxuan Ancestral Hall are on its right side, and Taoxi Ancestral Hall and Dingxi Ancestral Hall are on its left side.
The five major ancestral halls in Waihai
The ancestral hall covers an area of ??about 4,100 square meters. It is built with three entrances side by side. It adopts a single eaves cloth tiled hard top, blue glazed tiles with trimmed edges, raised beams and passages. Combined with the beam frame structure, it retains the distinctive architectural art style of the Qing Dynasty. The building is large in scale, magnificent in shape, rigorous in layout, and sophisticated in structure. With the Xinyin Chen Gong Temple as the central axis, the layout is symmetrical. There are many stone archways inside and outside the ancestral hall, and long couplets are hung on giant pillars to record the merits of the ancestors. The ancestral hall has carved beams, painted pillars and gorgeous decorations, all reflecting the exquisite complexity and artistic style of Qing Dynasty architecture.
During the Cultural Revolution, the five major temples were destroyed, but happily, its overall architectural style was well preserved. In 2000, the municipal government listed it as a municipal cultural relic protection unit; in April 2002, the district government handed over the management and use of the five major temples to the Waihai Town Government.
In order to protect the cultural relics and build the five major ancestral halls into a cultural position and tourist attraction, the Waihai Town Committee and the town government have carried out repairs many times to gradually restore them to their original appearance. The newly built square in front of the Five Ancestral Temples has now become a good place for people from overseas to relax and have fun.
Chen Shaobai’s former residence

Lile Xiangdong Flowers
Lile Xiangdong Village has been planting peach blossoms and chrysanthemums for more than 20 years. It was probably around 1980 that several brothers from a family surnamed Chen started. Guangzhou Fangcun introduced peach and chrysanthemum seedlings. At first, relatives were invited to try the planting. Later, other villagers imitated the planting pattern, and now every household is planting flowers. At that time, there were few flowers for sale in the urban area. Due to the cultivation of flowers in the east, more and more flowers were supplied to the urban area, and the number of people arranging flowers continued to increase. At first, villagers had to go to several major markets in Jiangmen to sell flowers. As people's lives continued to improve, the supply and demand for flowers also continued to increase. To facilitate the public, the government built a winter jasmine flower market. It has experienced the Central Market Flower Market (the current market behind the People's Hospital), Penglai Winter Flower Market (the intersection between the current Children's Park and the stadium) and so on. The hard-working villagers of Xiangdong continue to expand the market for flowers, from Xinhui, Kaiping, Enping, Taishan to Zhongshan, Zhuhai, etc. The sales network continues to expand, and flowers are produced and sold in provinces, Hong Kong and Macao, becoming a peach blossom village well-known in Wuyi.
Because Liyue is located on the plains beside the Liuxi River, the land is fertile and soft, suitable for the growth of peach trees, so the peach blossoms become more and more beautiful as they are planted, and gradually become an indispensable "character" in the winter jasmine flower market. The peach blossoms in Xiangdong Village are very beautiful with bright colors, long flowering period, large flowers, many stamens and overlapping petals. Every Spring Festival, it has become a common practice among citizens to buy a peach blossom that is ready to blossom, take the spring spirit home, and use it to express their best wishes for great ambitions and sweet love in the new year. custom.
