What should you pay attention to when growing vegetables on the balcony in a small vegetable garden in the city?

Being able to eat vegetables grown by yourself is a blessing in itself, especially for urban people who do not have a vegetable garden, so the only way is to build a small vegetable garden on the balcony of your home.

My own small garden was gradually transformed into a small vegetable garden by my mother. Watching my beloved flowers and plants leave me little by little and turn into green vegetables, it was actually a different scene.

For growing vegetables on the balcony, if you have space and a level, you can use soilless cultivation, hydroponics, or three-dimensional farming. Of course, most people just get a few flower pots and plant onions, coriander, peppers, tomatoes, etc. on their balcony. It’s simple and feasible.

So what should you pay attention to when growing vegetables on the balcony? Today I would like to share with you several main aspects.

1. From a safety perspective, the load-bearing capacity of the balcony should be considered.

2. If you are building walls, stacking bricks, and then filling the soil to grow vegetables, pay attention to the thickness of the soil layer. Too thin is not conducive to the growth of vegetables, and too thick will affect the safety of the house.

3. Pay attention to drainage. If it rains continuously, whether the water can be drained will have a big impact on soil loss.

4. Water, because growing vegetables on the balcony is small and easy to manage. Do not use domestic water to water vegetables, as this can easily lead to root rot.

5. Fertilize rationally, mainly root fertilizer or flush fertilizer, and try not to use foliar fertilizer.

6. Light. Sufficient light is necessary for plant growth. Because growing vegetables on the balcony is limited, the sunlight may not last long enough. Such vegetables will not grow large and strong.

7. For pest control, don’t spray pesticides on the vegetables you grow on your balcony, as that would be meaningless. You can spray a little garlic water or ginger water, or water from crushed walnut leaves, or some of them. If two or three are used together, the vegetables you want to eat cannot be used anymore, which will affect the taste.

8. Soil. It is easy to use red clay with a little humus soil. You can also use black soil or black loam soil. If there are no conditions, use sandy soil. However, when using sandy soil, you must pay attention to the key points of fertilization and watering.

There are many professional issues and issues that need attention, so I won’t introduce them one by one.
