What special festivals are there in Gannan?

In addition to the statutory holidays stipulated by the state, Gannan actually has its own festivals. These festivals also have some special origins. If you want to attend these festivals when you go to Gannan, you should plan ahead.

Maolanmu Dafa Association

Time: from the evening of the second day of the first month to the seventeenth day of the first month, lasting fifteen days.

Venue: Main Buddhist temples in Gannan Tibetan area.

Also known as the first month Dharma Meeting, monks in various monasteries recite scriptures six times a day in Dajingtang during the Dharma Meeting. The first is called morning meeting, the second is called morning debate, the third is called noon meeting, the fourth is called prayer meeting, the fifth is called evening tea party, and the sixth is called evening debate.

Sun Buddha Festival in Labrang Temple

Time: It will be held before noon on the 13th day of the first lunar month.

Venue: Labrang Temple

Buddha's Birthday Festival, also known as Buddha-watching Festival or Buddha-showing Festival, is one of the series activities of Labrang Temple on the 15th day of the first month. Buddha's birthday is not only a solemn Tibetan Buddhist festival, but also a concentrated display of Tibetan customs. Many monks and lay people gathered, and many domestic and foreign tourists came here. The Buleng Temple Law Festival lasted until the 17th day of the first lunar month, including activities such as releasing Buddha (the eighth day of the first lunar month), sunbathing Buddha, dancing (the 14th day of the first lunar month), butter sculpture lantern festival (the 15th day of the first lunar month) and changing incense (the 16th day of the first lunar month).
