Feeding method of domestic tortoises
tortoises are easier to feed and only eat plants, which is worthy of the name? Vegetarian? . Here are the breeding methods of domestic tortoises that I have carefully arranged for you. Let's take a look.
breeding methods of domestic tortoises
1. Water for raising tortoises
Tap water that has been dried for more than 2 days (for chlorine removal) should be used, and it is best to prepare 2 plastic buckets to dry, which can meet the needs of changing water. It is recommended to change the water in part every day, and it is not necessary to change the water in the whole cylinder, unless the water and the periphery of the cylinder are dirty. When partially changing water, use a plastic small tube to suck out the dirty water at the bottom by siphon principle, and then add new water with the same capacity (that is, tap water that has been dried for 2 days) into the cylinder. In this way, turtles that change water will not have white eye disease or rotten nails. Of course, if you want to save labor, you can change the water in the whole tank every day or once every few days, but there is no guarantee that the turtle can grow healthily.
2, turtle food
Water turtles generally feed pork, beef, shrimp, small fish, poultry and fish liver, these foods should be chopped or shredded, of course, fish feed or turtle feed can also be fed, but it is recommended not to feed as much as possible. You only need to leave a little food when cooking to feed the turtles, and you don't need to buy turtle food specially. It should be noted that shrimp heads and fishbones should be removed when feeding shrimp and fish, so as to prevent the shrimp bones and fishbones from piercing the turtle's throat. Frozen food should be thawed, and can only be fed to turtles when the temperature is consistent with the water temperature.
In summer, the temperature is high, and turtles have a fast metabolism, so they can be fed once a day, but it is generally recommended to feed them once every other day, because turtles don't need to be fed too often, because they are animals with slow metabolism. Of course, if you are busy, it's okay to feed them once every few days. They are very hungry animals. Even if you travel, as long as you ensure adequate water supply, it's okay for them not to eat for half a month. It's just a bit of injustice to your precious turtle. When autumn comes in October, turtles don't eat much, only once every few days, until they start to hibernate in winter and stop eating.
Generally, the feeding amount of turtles is the size of their heads and necks. However, turtles are very edible. Because it may take several days for them to find food in the wild, they can eat a lot at a time in case they don't need food in the future. Therefore, turtles have a great appetite. I suggest you don't give in. Too much food is harmful to their health and will affect their life span.
3. Environment for raising turtles
Generally, the water depth for raising turtles is a little higher than the turtle's back, and it is not necessary to be too deep (of course, some turtle friends need to use filters or like high water level is another matter). It is best to provide a stone above the water surface for the turtle to climb up and bask in the back; Turtles need sunshine. If they are kept indoors, they should be kept in the sun for more than ten minutes every day. It is recommended to keep it in the southeast where the sun can shine for about 1-2 hours (no long-term direct sunlight is needed), and provide shading conditions (a small wooden board can be placed on the top of the tank to partially shade the sun) to avoid heatstroke.
4. About Hibernation
When the temperature drops below 13℃ in October and November every year, turtles begin to hibernate until the temperature rises to 18℃ in February and March. Hibernating turtles can't eat or move, but sleep. The easiest way to hibernate is to move the turtle into a dark and quiet place indoors, hibernate in shallow water (the water has just passed the carapace), and change the water once a month. Try not to disturb the turtle except changing the water. Be careful that the temperature is not lower than 6 degrees, otherwise it will endanger the turtle's life. Precautions for feeding domestic tortoises
Feeding classification
Although the tortoises are wearing hard shells, they are fearless of collision and extrusion. However, when tortoises of different specifications are raised together, it is bound to appear that the small ones are squeezed, hungry and uncertain, and the big ones dominate. If this happens for a long time, small people will have symptoms of emaciation, fear and timidity, and serious people will be in danger of death. Therefore, tortoises of different specifications must be kept separately. Usually, the tortoise shell length is 5 cm as the boundary, that is to say, turtles with a difference of 5 cm in shell length should be raised separately.
Habits
Tortoise from the wild should be kept in isolation for a period of time before it can be mixed with the original tortoises. When hunting, wild tortoises often swallow food with eggs into their bodies and become a parasite carrier. The food of captive tortoises is processed, so there is less chance of carrying parasites. Therefore, it is necessary to kill parasites for new wild tortoises.
first of all, when you will own a tortoise, please ask the tortoise owner about its species name, place of origin, living environment (dry or wet), food habits and so on. However, in order to sell tortoises as soon as possible, a few turtle owners usually say that tortoises are kept artificially and can eat food. In fact, there is no record of artificial reproduction of four species of tortoises made in China, and most of them come from the wild. Some turtles made in foreign countries have been bred, such as leopard turtle, Sukada tortoise, red-legged tortoise, Indian star turtle and so on. Therefore, it is very important to determine the correct species name of tortoises. The origin, habit, life type and lifestyle (wild or captive) of turtles can be determined by their species names, so as to adopt corresponding management methods. Secondly, for tortoises from the wild, they should be fed with broad-spectrum parasitic drugs or forcibly fed once. The artificially raised tortoises can be fed with broad-spectrum parasite-resistant drugs before late autumn or early winter. After that, after feeding the medicine, generally 2 ~ 3 days later, there are worms discharged with feces.
Take a hot bath for tortoises
As far as tortoises are concerned, taking a hot bath for newly introduced tortoises is very important. Hot water bath can not only urge tortoises to excrete feces, but also enhance their appetite. Moreover, nutraceuticals can be added to the water for unhealthy tortoises. At the same time, the health status of tortoises can be judged by the amount of feces and drinking water discharged by tortoises. It can be seen that taking a hot bath for tortoises is an important link in the process of raising tortoises. Whether it is a new tortoise, a tortoise that has been raised or a wild tortoise, it is necessary to take a hot bath regularly.
method of washing hot water bath: find a basin of suitable size to hold water of about 35℃ (in the process of soaking in winter, when the water temperature drops to about 25℃, change the water in time. The water level should not exceed 2/3 of the turtle shell height. Let the tortoise drink water first, and let the tortoise soak for 3 ~ 4 minutes. When the turtle crawls, use a small toothbrush or soft brush to scrub the turtle shell. Finally, dry the turtle with a dry towel prepared in advance and put it in the sun or in a turtle nest with high temperature.
the temperature in the turtle nest tends to be high.
