Why was a woman trapped in a "working holiday" trip to Australia?
In recent years, Australia and other countries have opened working holiday visas to Chinese citizens, and the "work and holiday" travel method is highly regarded by many Chinese young people. However, many travelers who went to Australia for working holidays recently told Beiqing Daily reporters that they encountered some traps during their work process. A staff member of the Chinese Embassy in Australia told the Beiqing Daily reporter that he had indeed received complaints from working holiday travelers. He said that before traveling to Australia for working holiday, travelers should learn more about the relevant working regulations and choose the work unit carefully. If you encounter a dispute, you should promptly complain to the consulate and the local labor department and safeguard your rights in accordance with the law.
In 2015, Australia began to open working holiday visas to Chinese citizens. Chinese tourists holding a working holiday visa can not only travel to Australia, but also work legally to earn money during their 12-month stay, of which they cannot work for the same employer for more than 6 months.
The Australian government stipulates that applicants for working holiday visas must be no more than 31 years old when submitting their application, have at least two years of university study experience or a university degree, and have basic English proficiency. This kind of "work, earn money and travel while" visa is sought after by many young people, but because there are only 5,000 places each year, those who are lucky enough to get the visa will be regarded as the "lucky ones".
Staff from the Australian Fair Work Ombudsman said that in recent years, the Ombudsman has handled many complaints from migrant workers, many of which occurred in restaurants, cafes and other catering industry establishments and some farms. He reminded workers to pay attention to the restaurant's license and keep work records when choosing to work in these places.
A staff member of the Australian Fair Work Ombudsman told a reporter from Beiqing Daily that in the past two years, he has received many complaints about migrant workers involving Chinese citizens. He said that when workers encounter their rights being violated, they should report to the police as soon as possible. The Investigation Bureau complained, “The Investigation Bureau provides Chinese translation services, and this service is free. Chinese workers are advised not to worry about language issues.
