Lashihai was originally a part of the ancient geosyncline in northwest Yunnan. During the Mesozoic Yanshan movement, the fold uplifted into land, and in Miocene it became a quasi-plain. With the development of orogeny in Hengduan Mountains, from the end of Pliocene to the beginning of Pleistocene, the quasi-plain under Yulong Snow Mountain was divided into three highland intermountain basins with relative height difference of100 ~ 200m. , namely Lashiba, Lijiang Dam and Qiheba.
