Design inspiration

1992, a cargo ship from China intended to cross the Pacific Ocean to reach Tacoma Port, Washington, USA, but was caught in a strong storm on the way. A container full of 29,000 bathtub toys fell into the sea and broke. Yellow ducks, blue turtles and green frogs floated to the sea, forming a huge "duck fleet", which has drifted with the current. From China to the coast of the United States and Britain, the journey is full of all kinds of wonderful experiences, quite a bit of fairy tale color. Most of these bathtub toys are yellow inflatable rubber ducks. With weak buoyancy and perseverance, these little things crossed the ocean from China 15 years and finally landed in Britain and America, which not only touched the "duck-chasing fans" all over the world, but also inspired Hoffman's creative inspiration (inspired by an art exhibition that Hoffman visited in Rotterdam and saw the landscape paintings of Dutch artists).

The image of duck in bathtub comes from daily life, which completely accords with Hoffman's view of artistic life. With the incredible fun and admirable courage behind the drifting story of 15 years, Hoffman thought it could be compared with Columbus who discovered the new world, and created the first "rubber duck" in 2007.
