The first of several underwater wonders in the world

Did you know? There are seven underwater wonders in the world, namely the Palau Islands, the Belize Barrier Reef, the northern Red Sea, hydrothermal vents, the Galapagos Islands, Lake Baikal and the Australian Great Barrier Reef. Among them, Palau’s underwater landscape is recognized by oceanographers as the first of the seven underwater wonders of the world. As an island country in the Western Pacific, Palau’s seascape is also amazing.

Palau, located in the Western Pacific, consists of a large barrier reef and numerous small islands and fewer barrier reefs. It is the closest to Guam in the United States, about more than 700 miles away. It is one of the gateways from the Pacific Ocean to Southeast Asia.

The islands of Palau are different from the islands in Hawaii that were formed by volcanic eruptions. They are mainly formed by the accumulation of a large number of coral corpses. This is a limestone island formed by the sedimentation and accumulation of the corpses of marine life a long time ago. Basically two thirds of the country's population live in Koror.

Palau’s climate is a tropical rainforest climate, with an annual temperature of 28.9°C. Suitable for travel all year round. All the islands have dense tropical rain forests. The main trees are ebony, Bengal banyan, bread tree, coconut tree, pandanus, etc. Coming here in summer is also lush and green, which is a great escape from the heat.
