There is such an ancient village in Qingyuan, Guangdong. Speaking of knowing this ancient village, it all stems from a mistake. However, Shangyue ancient village, one of the most beautiful ancient villages in Guangdong, was discovered.

This ancient village is a place I happened to see. Ancient villages were founded in the Southern Song Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The gables in the village are shaped like pot ears, so they are also called pot ear walls.

Although Shanggu Village is a scenic spot, it does not accept tickets now. Visitors can play for free. At present, the most convenient way to get to the ancient village is by car. You can also take the bus first and then ride a motorcycle.

According to historical records and their genealogy, it can be seen that the great ancestor of this family is Zhu (the sixth grandson of Zhu), a famous anti-Yuan star in the Southern Song Dynasty, which has been passed down to the 32nd generation.

At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, with Song Gongdi's family fleeing south, he chose this quiet and remote place to live in the chaos. It can be said that this place has been a gathering place for officials and wealth from the beginning.

Ancient gables are shaped like enlarged versions of the handles of vegetable pots, commonly known as "pot ear walls". Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties are symbols of official positions, which are shaped like official hats. Only famous people are qualified to build this kind of house with pot ears, and the height of pot ears also represents the size of official positions.

If you see some pots with dragons carved on their walls and phoenixes painted on their foreheads, you can know that their owners were prominent at that time.

In addition, there are many ancient wells in the village. It is said that there are more than 20 well-preserved ancient wells, three of which have a history of hundreds of years. There is even a culture of offering sacrifices to the well god, which is very rare in the whole country.

The ancient house of 108 is hidden in the orange forest in the village, and the layout of the front pool and the back hill implies the hidden geomantic omen. It embodies the wisdom of predecessors on rural architecture everywhere. In ancient times, all the streets and alleys ended in "Li".

The ancient village consists of 18 villages, including Guirenli, Zhongguirenli and Xiaguirenli. Walking in, weeds have grown on the neat pavement paved with bluestone slabs, all of which are traces left by years.

Most buildings have four bedrooms, a living room and two kitchens. The layout of the houses in the building is reasonable, and the building is built according to the feng shui pattern. These blue bricks and tiles, with undulating pot ears, are buckled together one by one, forming a different ink painting.

From the alley through the mottled brick wall, desolate ancestral temple, heavy threshold, paved roadway, more than 700 years have passed quietly. Now many villagers in the ancient village have moved out of the old living area, so there are large abandoned residential areas in the village, which is a bit desolate.

Mottled houses have a history of sedimentation. It is said that wine is not afraid of the depth of the alley. Looking around, the number is small and scarce, and it is not easy to preserve and present it perfectly. It was rated as a famous historical and cultural village in China. It's worth a visit.
