Shanghai Railway Bureau is one of the 18 railway bureaus managed by China Railway Corporation, referred to as "Shanghai Railway" and "Shanghai Bureau". It has jurisdiction over the Nanjing Office, Xuzhou Office, Hefei Office, Hangzhou Office, and 4 railway offices. Shanghai Railway Bureau is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River on the southeast coast. Its jurisdiction areas and lines are mainly distributed in Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. The industrial and agricultural production in the area is developed, and internal and external trade is booming. It is densely populated and rich in tourism resources. It is the busiest railway bureau in the country for passenger and freight transportation. On November 4, 2017, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce announced that the name change of the Shanghai Railway Bureau, a subsidiary of China Railway Corporation, had been approved and the Shanghai Railway Bureau was renamed China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
The Shanghai Railway Bureau was established in 1949. It is a large-scale transportation enterprise affiliated to China Railway Corporation. Its jurisdiction spans Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Anhui, and three provinces and one city. It is currently the railway bureau with the longest high-speed railway operation mileage in the country. High-speed EMUs, high-power locomotives, CTC, GSM-R and other advanced equipment have been put into operation in large quantities within the management. The company is equipped with 190 EMUs (including 16 EMUs in 104 sets and 8 EMUs in 86 sets), the largest number of railways in the country, and is equipped with 397 new high-power electric locomotives. It is also equipped with 1,270 other locomotives and 6,581 passenger cars.
