A complete guide to traveling from Harbin to Dandong

I have been to Dandong three times and just came back a few days ago. There are two group tours and one self-guided tour. The route is Fenghuang Mountain-Dandong-Dalu Island:

First you take the train to Fengcheng and get off. It is best to arrive in the morning. After getting off the train, We simply have breakfast at the train station and buy some food to take with us. It takes about 4 or 5 hours to climb the mountain. There are many buses to Fenghuang Mountain next to the train station. They are not expensive. I don’t remember the exact price. I go directly to the mountain gate and travel light. Yes, you can store your luggage at the foot of the mountain, because Phoenix Mountain is a mountain that requires you to use your hands and feet, unlike other mountains that are all steps, which is very interesting. Three-quarters of the way up the mountain, there is a cableway going down the mountain. It will be around 3 pm when we get down. You can take the bus to Dandong and sit at the train station. It will arrive in about an hour. Stay in Dandong for the night.

The place to live in Dandong is relatively expensive. Standard rooms costing around 200 are relatively easy to find. You can find them first. There are more along the river but they are a bit expensive. You can stay in chain hotels or book Home Inn or something online.

Dandong must go to the Yalu River. Start early in the morning. Taxi fares start at 5 yuan, which is cheaper than Harbin. You can see the broken bridge, and you can also take a boat to see North Korea on the opposite side. You can see North Koreans, but they are not very friendly. At noon, you can go to the local specialty restaurant Arirang to eat. Of course it is Korean food, such as shredded pollack, roast beef and so on. They are all very delicious, similar to Harbin's Amani and General Steak. In the afternoon, we went to visit Dandong Pedestrian Street. Buying some food from the supermarket will be expensive on the island tomorrow.

In the evening, let’s eat Dandong’s special barbecue bars. They are everywhere in the streets. They are all semi-self-service style. Each table has a small stove. You can bake the semi-finished products by yourself. You can try the roasted garlic sprouts, which are not common in Harbin. Eels and, of course, grilled clams.

On the third day, you can sign up for a group tour to Dalu Island locally, or you can go by yourself. I signed up for a group tour for more than 100 yuan. I can’t remember. I first took a bus from Dandong city to the pier and then waited. The boat will arrive about forty minutes after getting on the boat at noon. It is best to bring more mineral water. It is very expensive on the island. Try not to drink the water on the island. People in Harbin will easily become acclimatized.

When you get off the boat, there are many hotels to welcome you. You can ask about the price first, and then check the conditions. Today’s fishermen’s courtyards are not expensive and are of standard enough. Then you can enjoy the sea view. The sea water in Dalu Island is not very clear and is black because it is at the intersection of the river and the sea. The shore is in a state of mud and sand. The island is well developed, with various recreational facilities, beach motorcycles, etc. .

Of course you have to eat seafood on the island, but don’t eat it raw, as it is easy to be poisoned. I have said so much, and I am exhausted. It's pretty clear. Remember to give me extra points.

Have a pleasant journey!
