What are Tourism Day and Tourism Year?
The World Tourism Organization puts forward different slogans for world tourism day every year. These slogans are short, powerful and far-reaching. For example, the slogan of 1980 world tourism day is: "Tourism helps to protect cultural heritage, peace and mutual understanding." 1983, the slogan is: "Travel and vacation are the rights and responsibilities of all people." The slogan of 1990 is: "Education for all through tourism".
In the past decade or two, the world tourism industry has developed and prospered, ranking among the three major industries in the world. In order to compete for the international tourism market, no matter the countries with more developed tourism industry or the rising stars, all countries compete to hold "Year of Tourism" activities, and launch promotional campaigns according to their own tourism characteristics to compete for more tourists, which has played an important role in promoting the development of tourism.
For example, Thailand experienced a downward trend in tourism in the late 1970s. In order to promote the growth of tourists, Thailand Tourism Bureau designated 1980 as the year of tourism in Thailand. As a result, the number of tourists increased by 16.8%.
1990 held the European Year of Tourism, with the purpose of welcoming the establishment of a single market in 1992 and making governments and the public better aware of the importance and social value of tourism.
Some countries spend a lot of money on publicity activities to prepare for the Year of Tourism. In order to publicize their own tourism landscapes, some countries have carefully drafted unique tourism propaganda slogans.
