1. In 1983, China became a member of the World Tourism Organization.

2. In 1985, China determined that one province, municipality, and autonomous region would serve as the main venue for World Tourism Day celebrations every year. Since then, tourism academia and industry have been discussing whether our country should also have a "China Tourism Day".

3. In 1987, an article in "Travel World" proposed the establishment of the "China Tourism Festival".

4. On March 30, 2011, China officially established National Tourism Day, with the date set as May 19. This day is the opening day of "Xu Xiake's Travels" and the day when Ninghai County holds the "China Ninghai Xu Xiake's Travel Festival" every year. Ninghai has been calling for May 19 as "China Tourism Day" for 10 years.
