The relationship between China and Sweden

Sweden recognized the new China on June 1950, and established diplomatic relations with China on May 9 14. It was the first western country to establish diplomatic relations with China.

In the same year, the two countries exchanged ambassadors, and Geng Biao was my first ambassador to Sweden. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Sino-Swiss relations have developed steadily, and exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and other fields and at all levels have increased day by day, with remarkable results.

In the 1950s, Switzerland always supported the restoration of China's legitimate seat in the United Nations. In the 1960s and 1970s, ministerial exchanges between the two countries gradually increased. Relations between the two countries developed rapidly in the 1980s. The Swiss King paid a state visit to China, and the Prime Ministers and Speakers of the two countries visited China. Premier China the State Council, Vice Chairman the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) and other leaders visited Switzerland one after another.

In recent years, Sino-Swiss relations have developed steadily, high-level visits have been frequent, and exchanges and cooperation between various departments and levels have increased significantly, which has enhanced mutual understanding and friendly relations between the two countries. In July, 2006, Swiss King Carl XVI Gustaf paid a state visit to China and attended the welcoming ceremony of the Swedish antique ship Gothenburg.
