What material is better for suitcases?
The more common suitcases currently on the market are mainly divided into three categories, namely hard-shell cases, soft cases and leather cases. Each category has different representative materials.
1. Hard-shell boxes
The main materials of hard-shell boxes are ABS, PP, PC, and CURV
(1) The material is ABS ( Synthetic resin):
Synthetic resin includes five major categories: polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, and ABS. They are all thermoplastics.
Polyethylene (PE): Polyethylene is usually used to make food bags and various containers.
Polypropylene (PP): Polypropylene with retort resistance is mostly used in tableware.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC): contains some toxic auxiliary materials such as anti-aging agents, so its products generally do not store food and medicine.
Polystyrene (PS): Polystyrene is mostly used to make lampshades, toothbrush handles, toys, and electrical components.
ABS is suitable for injection molding and extrusion processing, so its main use is to produce these two types of products. ABS resin has eye-catching colors, is heat-resistant, and is strong. The outer surface can be plated with chrome, nickel and other metal films, and can be used to make keys, buttons, knife holders, TV casings, luggage casings, etc.
Advantages of suitcases made of ABS:
It is relatively hard and not easily deformed by pressure. The outer shell has high strength and is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkali and various acids, and is not easily damaged. , can effectively protect the contents. The appearance of ABS is opaque and ivory-colored granules, and its products can be colored and have high gloss.
Disadvantages of ABS suitcases:
High price, heavy weight, inconvenient to carry, there are no small ones, basically all are large ones. In addition, the price is much higher than that of Oxford cloth and artificial leather.
(2) CURV suitcase shell
The high-performance and innovative Curv material has the characteristics of high hardness, strong tensile strength and impact resistance. More expensive
Curv is a thermoplastic composite material produced by Propex Fabrics, a century-old company from Germany. It has an unprecedented perfect combination of lightness and toughness. Curv technology compresses layers of synthetic fibers into a synthetic sheet, creating a self-reinforcing material like a compressed sandwich. This is very similar to the ultra-thin gold-titanium alloy armor of Iron Man in the movie, which can achieve maximum strength without sacrificing strength. Reduce size if possible. The impact resistance of Curv composite material at sub-zero temperatures is better than that of PP, ABS, aluminum-magnesium alloy and other materials.
Advantages of CURV material suitcases:
A. Low density and good fusion. Design research shows that this material can save 50% of weight.
B. 100% polypropylene material, 100% polypropylene composite material replaces fiber reinforced materials, which has significant environmental advantages.
C. It does not contain any fiberglass at all, is gentle and easy to handle, non-irritating, has a smooth and wear-resistant surface, and requires no additional coating.
D. It is a thermoformed product with low cost.
E. Can withstand high impact strength and provide maximum protection.
F. It is corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, easy to clean, and does not require additional surface protection.
Based on the above, the order of preference for our hard-shell suitcases is CURV material, ABS, PP, PC
2. Soft cases:
Currently soft cases The material of the box is mainly nylon, Oxford cloth or non-woven material. Although these fabrics do not look as fashionable as hard shells, they are also very durable
Advantages of Oxford cloth suitcases: The exterior of the suitcase has diversified designs (such as outer pockets for small items) and is relatively malleable The hard case has a larger capacity but is lighter in weight. The soft case comes in a variety of colors and styles and is scratch-resistant.
Disadvantages: The rainproof effect is not as good as that of a hard box, and it is not suitable for storing fragile items.
3. Leather suitcases: cowhide, sheepskin, PU leather
If there is no special need to highlight high-end quality, it is still not recommended to choose leather suitcases, although it It does look very luxurious, but for ordinary consumers, it is a bit flashy, is easily scratched and damaged, and is difficult or expensive to repair.
