Jiaozuo Shangliuzhuang Refractory Clay Mining Area

The mining area is located about 18km northeast of Jiaozuo City and is under the urban and rural jurisdiction of Anyang, Malin District.

The mining area is a monoclinic structure. The ore-bearing rock system of the Upper Carboniferous Benxi Formation has a dip of about 140° and a dip angle of 8°~12°.

The refractory clay in the mining area is divided into three layers. The ore bodies in the upper and lower layers are scattered and have little industrial value; the middle layer is the main industrial ore body in the area. The ore body is layered, with a length of 1200m, a width of 200~400m, a thickness of 0.75~14.39m, an average thickness of 3.18m, and a burial depth of 0~146m. The ore body type is mainly soft and semi-soft clay. The main chemical composition and average mass fraction of soft clay are: Al2O3, 37.68%; SiO2, 43.54%; Fe2O3, 1.35%; loss on ignition 13.38%. Refractory degree 1739℃; plasticity coefficient 9.6.

This mining area was identified as a medium-sized refractory clay mining area in a reserve report submitted by Henan Nonferrous Geology Team 6 (formerly Team 601 of Zhongnan Metallurgical Geological Exploration Company of the Ministry of Metallurgy) in June 1966. Among them, soft and semi-soft clay accounts for 73%. The main chemical components and their average mass fractions are: Al2O3, 21.39%~44.83%; SiO2, 29.12%~56.02%; Fe2O3, 0.38%~3.38%; loss on ignition, 6.98~15.88%; refractoriness, 1610℃~1770℃.
