Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is located in the longitudinal valley of Hengduan Mountain in the south extension of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in northwest Yunnan Province, bordering Myanmar in the west, Tibet in the north and Diqing, Lijiang, Dali and Baoshan in the southeast. The border line is 449.67 kilometers long. Total area 14703 km2, with a total population of 458,800.

The mountains on both sides of the Nujiang River are more than 3,000 meters high and deep, and the sound of water is roaring, hence the name Nujiang River. The folk customs in Nujiang area are rich and colorful, especially the Lisu people's knife and pole festival, and the Dulong people's custom of shooting cattle is the most unique. All ethnic groups have different religious beliefs, and primitive religion, Lamaism, Catholicism and Christianity coexist.

Nujiang Prefecture belongs to subtropical mountain monsoon climate and has three-dimensional climate characteristics. From the bottom of the canyon to the top of the beam, there are various types of natural landscapes and habitats in the "Sanjiang" canyon area.
