Because of my participation in the IAESTE project, I got this valuable internship opportunity in Germany. Before going out, I felt a little uneasy. I always wondered whether Germans could speak English (I can't speak German), what if I didn't eat Chinese food for two months, whether there were many skinheads in Germany, and whether I could do projects there. In fact, the situation in Germany is much better than I expected. ? Germany always remembers that when I first set foot on German territory, I was at Tegel Airport in Berlin. At that time, my first impression was that Germany was really clean. The asphalt road outside is dark and there is no dust, and the cement sidewalk next to it is clean. In a word, everything in the field of vision is well organized and refreshing. The experience of the next two months further confirmed this point. The streets, cinemas, apartments, ferries, buses and trains in Germany are very clean and tidy. The second impression that followed was that Germany was rich: taxis outside the airport were either Mercedes-Benz or BMW. Before introducing my trip to Germany, I have to explain my destination first. The place where I am going to practice is called Greifswald, a small town in northern Germany. Even many Germans don't know this place. This small town is located on the northeast coast of Germany, with beautiful scenery. It is basically a university town. Its Greifswald Universitat is my internship unit. I was lucky to learn later that this Greifswald Universitat is the most popular university in Germany, which is probably related to the beautiful scenery here. Not only is this town beautiful, but there are also many natural tourist attractions in Germany near it. ? Life? When you arrive in Germany, the first thing to do is to arrange accommodation. I live in Guesthouse, which is not so interesting as Family Hostel or student apartment, but it is much more comfortable. I live with a man from Lithuania who is studying law. He is a doctor here and has been in Germany for two years. He knows much more about life here than I do, so I often ask him questions about life. Unfortunately, his English is not very good, so we can't chat at will. We have two separate bedrooms, a large living room and a large kitchen, as well as a balcony and bathroom. The rent is 15 euros a month, which is not expensive, because my place is a small town. ? Speaking of German food, I don't think it's as bad as some people told me before I came. Some things are quite delicious. Especially the cheese here, in China, it seems that everyone talks about cheese discoloration, but when I came here, I found that many cheeses are quite delicious. In particular, there is one that looks terrible, has green mold on the surface, and has a bad smell, but it tastes delicious, a bit like fermented bean curd. Here, it is found that Germans have a cooking tendency, that is, they like to mix a lot of things together, mash them and cook them in one pot. When eating, it's almost the same. All the food on the table is distributed to everyone's big plate before eating. When eating, these foods are inevitably mixed together again. But Germans seem to like it very much. ? Although the scenery in my place is beautiful, because the place is too small, there are not many recreational activities after work. Greifswald is in the northernmost part of Germany, and the towns in the north have a characteristic, that is, the streets are very deserted at night. In Greifswald, it is difficult to see pedestrians on the street after eight o'clock in the evening, only cars are driving around on the street. All the shops and restaurants are closed, only a few bars are open. So at night, there are only bars in the street, but the bars are also very boring. In a word, Greifswald's evening is very boring. ? Work? My main time in Germany is still working in the laboratory, although my work is not heavy. My main job is to simulate molecular behavior with computer and calculate the state of some small molecules on the surface of titanium dioxide with CPMD package. I hope to find some ways to adsorb small molecules and make them react chemically. Our laboratory is actually a small computer room with several computers. The computer configuration is a typical scientific research configuration: dual/quad CPU, 1-2G memory, 19-inch monitor and Linux system. In China, I haven't used Linux very much, and I'm not familiar with its operation. Fortunately, I use Suse with graphical interface, which is similar to Windows, and there is not much problem. The main job is to find a suitable initial state, and the rest of the calculation is done by the machine. We not only use local computers, but also use the school to calculate the mainframe in the center and the remote supercomputer in Rostock. However, due to the complexity of the system and the large amount of calculation, it is also quite slow to calculate. If you use Rostock's supercomputer, it will take three or four days, and if you use a local computer, it will take longer, usually more than a week. ? An important and interesting problem in my work is to try to adsorb water molecules by electrostatic interaction between positively charged titanium atoms on the surface of titanium dioxide (anatase) and electron-rich oxygen atoms in water molecules, and to further catalyze the decomposition of water molecules with external energy (light) by hydrogen bonding between oxygen atoms on the surface of anatase and hydrogen atoms in water molecules. However, due to the huge amount of calculation, it takes several days or even a week to calculate one picosecond, while the decomposition of water molecules usually takes tens to thousands of picoseconds. It will take a long time to simulate the whole process. Therefore, the method we take is to calculate the state and energy of water molecules on the surface of titanium dioxide before decomposition, and then calculate the score < P >;
