Ashamedly, I have not been to the entire Xinjiang, so this article mainly talks about my favorite places during my trip to Xinjiang. Although this place cannot be said to be the best place for travel experience (the hardware is definitely not as good as cities like Shanghai and Beijing), the beauty here is never enough no matter how many times I see it. When many people think of Xinjiang, their first impression is of endless desert, but China’s most beautiful land of mountains, rivers and rivers also exists here. There is no direct flight from Beijing here (you need to land in Karamay, which is a 7-hour drive away). But even so, in 2019, more than 10 million domestic travelers traveled long distances to come here in order to see this secret place.

If you only go to Kanas in Xinjiang, then obviously the time cost is a bit too high. Because it takes at least more than 7 hours of driving to get here. In addition, the main route on the Internet is the Urumqi route that takes 5-10 days. This time is too long for many people.

Today, I will talk about how to complete Northern Xinjiang in 5 days!

First stop: Karamay

There are four main transfer points to Karamay - Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, and Urumqi. Therefore, it will be very convenient for travelers in these 4 places because they can fly directly. But if you are in other cities in China, you usually need to transfer in these 4 places.

Of course, if you want to take the route in the Northern Xinjiang Circle, you can go directly to Urumqi. But if you want to visit Northern Xinjiang quickly, it’s better to go directly to Karamay. The usual waiting time for a transfer is 3-6 hours. If you have enough time, there are outlets near Beijing Capital Airport and Chongqing Shuangliu. Near Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, there is Wangfujing Department Store where you can go shopping.

After arriving in Karamay, you need to rent a car. OTAs like Ctrip will provide airport car rental services. The most popular thing to do near Karamay is Devil City. Because there will be great scenery with beautiful mountains and clear waters during the journey in Kanas. The place where you can experience the vastness of the desert is Karamay. The scenic spots are on the way from Karamay to Kanas, and you can check in along the way.

If you want to see the only lake in Karamay, you can also check in at Lake Eric, which stretches across 70 square kilometers.

In terms of accommodation, Xinjiang’s accommodation experience cannot be said to be the most developed in the country. Here are two recommendations. The first one is Karamayi Mayitako Hotel, the only five-star hotel in the entire region.

The other hotel is the Mercure Karamay Tianqi Hotel. Although this hotel’s positioning is not as high as the former, the hotel only opened in 2018, so the hardware will be relatively new.

Kanas

Kanas is 7 hours away from Karamay. Every frame travelers see in Kanas is a painting, and the scenery is different in each season. It is said that water monsters can occasionally be seen in the lake, and it has even been officially reported by CCTV.

In winter, this place will transform into a white world like the Alps on the Swiss border in winter. If you want to recommend some places for viewing, you can go to Luotuo Bay at the source of the river, Wolong Bay with a sandbar in the water, and the Fish Viewing Platform where you can have a panoramic view of Kanas.

In addition, be sure to appreciate the night sky in Kanas. There are not many places in the world that can compare with the night sky here. What you can see in the picture is what you can see with the naked eye after arriving in Kanas.

In terms of accommodation, one of the more interesting hotels in Kanas in recent years is the Kanas Birch Forest Resort Hotel. In terms of the diversity of B&B and hotel styles, Xinjiang is definitely different from Yunnan. But in Kanas, there is something special about being able to experience living in a forest cabin for one night.

Hemu

Hemu is not far from Kanas. In terms of scenery, the Kanas Lake area is definitely enough. However, Hemu is better than Kanas Lake in having a complete resort ecology. Moreover, this ecology includes an ice and snow park! Skiing, sledding, and snowmobiling are all available. Spending one day playing in Kanas Scenic Area and one day skiing in Hemu is a very leisurely schedule.

And there are also wooden house hotels here. In terms of positioning, Kanas Xirong HEMU B&B is the highest among hotels in Kanas area. The smallest room in the hotel is also 60 square meters, and the largest is close to 130 square meters. It is a small house that can accommodate 6 people, and the lowest price is only 1,299 yuan now.

In fact, after doing these, it is enough for a 4/5 day trip. If you still have time, you can go to Baihaba on the edge of Kanas. If you want to travel around Urumqi, you need to set aside enough time, and you also need to face a very long drive. For winter, there are still some uncertain factors.

Xinjiang is definitely not the most convenient place for domestic travel. The journey involves not only a long transfer, but also a long drive. But it is also a place that hides the most shocking natural landscape in China. It is different from the prosperity and splendor of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and it is different from the splendor of Hainan. The beauty here is strange, dreamy and extremely wild. It is precisely because of this that every second of the drive in the wilderness of Xinjiang is fascinating.
