Wang Anshi regretted it very much.
Baochan is famous all over the world because Wang Anshi, a great writer and politician in the Northern Song Dynasty, wrote the famous prose "A Journey to Baochan Mountain". There is a stele gallery at the entrance of Huayang, with the full text engraved on it. Why did Wang Anshi write this article? In July 1054 AD, Wang Anshi's three-year sentence ended and he was on his way back to Renshou Prefecture to visit relatives. At that time, Wang Anshi, his two friends and two younger brothers were visiting the mountain, but when they were exploring the cave, a group of five people walked out of the cave without completing their journey. Therefore, Wang Anshi regretted it very much and wrote this article with deep feelings.
The full text is just over 500 words, short and concise, with tortuous layout, making it easy to read. Although this article is a travel note, the focus is on the feelings after the tour, revealing the importance of rigorous scholarship, innovation in work, and perseverance in work. It is this travelogue that contains profound thoughts. It has been selected as a high school Chinese textbook for many years and has also been included as a compulsory model for middle school students in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Why don't you continue?
It is a household name, but few people know why Wang Anshi did not go down Huayang Cave. According to the Hanshan Tourism Department, Huayang Cave is most famous for its unique cultural landscape. In the cave, you can see the Four Treasures of the Study and feel the strong cultural atmosphere. After entering the cave, a hall suddenly opened up, called "Zoubeitang". It was Wang Anshi and his party who walked in from the back cave with torches and walked here. One of them said, "We don't want a fire." They must escape from the hole together. After leaving the cave, Wang Anshi felt very regretful. In July of the same year, he wrote the famous article "A Journey to Baochan Mountain" in the form of memories. There are also four words "Gong Jing Huibu", which was created in 1200 AD by later generations who followed the path Wang Anshi walked here with reverence for Wang Anshi. It has a history of more than 800 years.

When the reporter and his party came to the "Gong Jing Huibu" hall, they felt the real reason why Prime Minister Wang Anshi could no longer walk. This was not only because he was afraid that the torch would go out and he could not go out, but also because a big stone blocked the entrance to "Gong Jing Hui Bu". So far, people can't get in unless they bend down. The hole is only 60 centimeters high from the ground and about one meter wide. Even if a child goes in, the cat has to bend down to get in. When an adult enters such a small hole, he has to hold on to the rocks and lie on the ground to get in. I don’t think Wang Anshi, the chief judge at that time, would have lowered his head and turned sideways into this hole.
The word "Huayang Cave" is Wang Anshi's handwriting
There is a small stone bridge at the entrance of Huayang, called Huaixian Bridge, which symbolizes the memory of Wang Anshi, who was determined to reform. There is a stone tablet on the right side of the cave entrance with three characters "Huayang Cave" engraved on it. According to the Hanshan Tourism Bureau, this is Wang Anshi's handwriting and is a rubbing from the "Wang Anshi Memorial Hall" in Wang Anshi's hometown in Linchuan, Jiangxi. The font is running script, vigorous and powerful, rich and beautiful. A natural sandalwood tree grows above the entrance of the cave. The tree is on the cliff, "the tree is wrapped around the stone, and the tree is hugging the stone" is one of the wonders of Baochan. The bark of this sandalwood tree is the main raw material for making rice paper. Currently, there are only three wild natural sandalwood forests in China, and Baochan is one of them.
According to the Hanshan Tourism Bureau, Baochan and Huayang Cave are connected together and have now become a famous tourist attraction in Ma'anshan.
Baochan Temple was built during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty.
According to the introduction of "Han Shu"
After that, monks in the Song Dynasty expanded the temples, and incense in Buddhist temples gradually flourished during the Qingyuan period of the Southern Song Dynasty. During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, there were more than a thousand Buddhist temples with nearly a thousand abbots and monks, reaching its peak. Not far from the original temple, there are two pagodas, one on the side of the mountain and the other on the side of the mountain. The pagoda is made of bricks and stones, has seven floors and is over 20 meters high. The pagoda was built in the third year of Song Yuanfeng and was blown up by rebels with explosives during the Cultural Revolution. During the investigation of cultural relics, the county cultural relics department collected 3 bronze Bodhisattvas and 2 silver fruit boxes excavated from the pagoda underground palace by nearby farmers, one of which contained 7 five-color relics of Zen Master Bao Hui.
Baochan is the collective name for several peaks. It starts from Ganoderma lucidum Mountain in the east, ends at Aoyu Ridge in the west, and has Qiyunfeng Mountain and Wan'er Ridge in the north. These peaks are surrounded by a small hill in the shape of a steamed bun, like stars holding the moon. This is Baochan Mountain. Wang Anshi wrote at the beginning of "A Journey to Baochan Mountain": "Baochan is also known as Huashan. The pagodas of the Tang Dynasty were the first to be buried at its site, but they were buried here, so it was later named Zanchan." This is the origin of the name Baochan.
