What place does Bashu refer to?

Bashu refers to the Sichuan Basin and its surrounding areas.

Bashu is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, in and around the central and eastern parts of today's Sichuan Province. The main residents are Han nationality and it is part of the Han region. Historically, China's Bashu, Hanzhong and Guanzhong regions were battlegrounds for ancient feudal dynasties. Bashu was the name of the region and the name of the local government in the pre-Qin period. Its jurisdiction mainly covers present-day Sichuan Province and Chongqing City. The eastern part of the Sichuan Basin is the Ba Kingdom (the capital is Langzhong, Sichuan), and the west is the Shu Kingdom (the capital is Chengdu, Sichuan).

The area near Chengdu was originally under the jurisdiction of the ancient Shu Kingdom. In the fourth century BC, King Kaiming V of the ancient Shu Kingdom (also known as Kaiming IX) moved the capital from Fanxiang, Guangdu (now Huayang, Chengdu) to Chengdu. Huangdi, the first ancestor of Chinese humanities, was born in the land of Bashu.
