Jingbian Danxia Natural Scenic Area, located in Jingbian County, Shaanxi Province, is composed of red sandstone Danxia landform, which is called the annual ring of time. Also known as the trough, its complex rock layer consists of huge sand dunes that began to deposit in Jurassic one hundred and fifty millions of years ago.
