Fuxin Haizhou Open-pit Mine National Mine Park

On July 27th, Haizhou Open-air National Mine Park officially opened. This is the first and only national mine park in Liaoning and the first industrial heritage tourism demonstration area in China. It is a world modern industrial heritage tourism project integrating tourism, business leisure, popular science practice, industrial recollection and adventure experience.

Haizhou Open-pit National Mine Park, formerly known as Haizhou Open-pit Coal Mine, is one of the 65,438+056 key projects during the first five-year plan period. From the commissioning of 1953 to the pit closure and bankruptcy in 2005, a total of 240 million tons of coal was mined, which made an important contribution to the economic construction since the founding of New China. In 2005, Haizhou open-pit coal mine closed down and went bankrupt due to resource exhaustion, leaving an abandoned artificial mine with a length of 4 kilometers, a width of 2 kilometers and a depth of 350 meters in the central area of the city. In addition, there are 850 million cubic meters of gangue in Haizhou open-pit mine dump, covering an area of 14.8 square kilometers. The resulting landslides and surface deformation disasters, spontaneous combustion disasters in coal mining, water environment disasters in mines and serious deterioration of the ecological environment threaten the lives and property safety of surrounding enterprises and people.

In order to completely rectify abandoned mining areas, Fuxin actively plans to transform abandoned open-pit coal mines into mine parks, which has been recognized and strongly supported by the relevant departments of the state and Liaoning Province. In 2005, Haizhou open-pit mine was listed as one of the first 28 national mine parks by the Ministry of Land and Resources. In 2006, the surrounding environment of Haizhou open-pit mine was rectified on a large scale, and the concept of Fuxin industrial heritage tourism was put forward for the first time. In 2007, Haizhou Open-pit Mine National Mine Park broke ground and received financial support from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Land and Resources and other national ministries. The mine park covers a total area of 28 square kilometers, with an estimated total investment of more than 600 million yuan. The plan will be completed in five to eight years. The planning of mine park is divided into four parts: the core area of world industrial heritage, the steam locomotive museum and sightseeing line, Sunjiawan international mine tourist area and the national mine sports park. Among them, the mine theme park has a total area of 200,000 square meters, including the main entrance, the mine cultural square, the museum, the monument and the observation deck, which have all been completed and opened to the public. At the beginning of 2009, Haizhou Open-pit Mine National Mine Park was named as the first industrial heritage tourism demonstration area in China by the National Tourism Administration.

The construction of Haizhou Open-pit Mine National Park in Fuxin City is an important measure to promote the sustainable development of resource-based cities, strengthen mine environment management, develop emerging tourism industries and promote the transformation of mining areas, which has important demonstration significance for improving ecological environment, cultivating continuous industries and accelerating transformation and revitalization. Fuxin will take the opening of the mine park as an opportunity to further do a good job in planning, construction, management, development and protection, and make every effort to build a world-class industrial heritage theme park integrating mine culture display, geological environment display, tourism and leisure, scientific research and teaching, and patriotism education, and to build a national mine environmental governance model project and a world-class industrial heritage tourism demonstration zone.
