The former residence is an ordinary wooden house with four doors and three rooms facing south. It was originally built by He Long's grandfather He Liangshi in the afternoon of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, and was later inherited by He Long's father He Shidao. Because their family had a large population, He Long’s father divided the three rooms into six rooms with wooden boards. The middle room is the main room. The front room of the hall used to be a hall for worshiping family gods and weddings and weddings. Now there is a bronze bust of Marshal He Long in military uniform. Behind the main room is the bedroom of He Long's sister and sister. The front left room is a fire pit room for heating in winter.

In the spring of 1916, He Long contacted 20 people and discussed the attack on the Bamaoxi Salt Tax Bureau in the fire pit room. The back half is the bedroom of He Long's parents. The house on the right side of his former residence is a mule and horse house. When He Long was in his teens, he worked as a mule and horse rider in order to make a living. The mules and horses were kept here. The saddles, whips and bamboo hats used by He Long back then are now on display.

In 1919, this ordinary house built by He Long's grandfather was burned down by the reactionary "magic soldiers". It was rebuilt by He Long's father soon after and expanded into a courtyard in 1925. In 1929, it was demolished by the local reactionary group Chen Cexun, leaving only the slot door and a broken wall. During the Cultural Revolution, He Long was framed and knocked down. The remaining walls were demolished and the house foundations were leveled into rice fields. The current He Long's former residence was restored according to its original appearance in 1977 with funding from the provincial and county governments. In 1983, the Hunan Provincial People's Government listed He Long's former residence as a key cultural relic protection unit.

The He Long Memorial Hall is located in Hongjiaguan Village, Sangzhi County, Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. It is at an angle with He Long's former residence and He Long Bridge. It was completed on March 25, 1996, the 100th anniversary of He Long's birth. The tall and mighty bronze statue of He Long stands in front of the memorial hall.
