Changes in tourist visa framework

On March 23, 20 13, the Australian government made an important structural adjustment to the visitor visa.

Eligible visa applicants can choose to apply for one of the following five new visa categories. Visitors should pay special attention to the details in the "600 tourist visa":

Tourist visa (category 600)

Temporary work visa (short stay activities) (category 400)

Electronic Travel Card (Category 60 1)

Medical visa (category 602)

Electronic visitor visa (65 1 category)

Tourist visa (category 600)

Tourist visas (Category 600) allow visa holders to travel to Australia to engage in business activities or visit relatives and friends. Visitors can enter and leave Australia once or more, and each stay does not exceed three months, six months or twelve months;

Such visa holders cannot work in Australia, provide services for Australian enterprises or institutions, or sell products or provide services to the Australian public. Applicants who go to Australia for short-term employment in Australia should apply for a newly established temporary work visa (short-term stay activities) (category 400).

This visa category includes four series:

Travel series: going to Australia for vacation, leisure or visiting relatives and friends. If you apply for this series of visas in Australia, the applicant should be in Australia when the visa is approved. If you apply for this series of visas outside Australia, the applicant should be outside Australia when the visa is approved.

-student groups: student groups with a term of less than three months can apply for a series of tourist visas. We have specially set up a student group visa application process for school groups to go to Australia. If you join or organize a student group to go to Australia, please refer to the following list of materials. Please note that teachers and staff of tour groups should apply for temporary work (short stay activities) (category 400) visas.

Business visit series: a short business visit to Australia. This includes attending meetings, conducting business negotiations or talks. The applicant should be outside Australia when submitting the visa application and visa approval.

Sponsored family series: visiting relatives in Australia. The applicant must have a guarantor. The guarantor may need to pay a deposit. The applicant should be outside Australia when submitting the visa application and visa approval. Applicants cannot apply for other visas in Australia.

Approved tourist destination visa series: China citizens travel to Australia in groups. The applicant should be outside Australia when submitting the visa application and visa approval.

Temporary work visa (short stay activities)

Temporary work visa (short stay activities) (category 400) allows visa applicants to carry out the following activities in Australia on the basis of temporary stay:

Engaged in short-term, non-continuous and professional work;

Participate in the event as an invited party.

Applicants can usually stay in Australia for six weeks. The applicant should be outside Australia when submitting the visa application and the visa is approved.

Electronic Travel Card (Category 60 1)

Passport holders in some countries can apply for electronic travel permits to travel to Australia for tourism or business activities. China passport holders cannot apply for an Electronic Travel Card (ETA).

Medical visa (category 602)

Medical visas allow patients to go to Australia for treatment or consultation.

Medical visa (type 602) is a temporary visa. Applicants can submit visa applications in Australia or abroad. If the visa application is submitted in Australia, the applicant should be in Australia when the visa is approved. Applicants may engage in the following activities:

Receiving treatment or medical consultation in Australia;

Organ donation;

Help people receiving treatment in Australia.

If you receive medical treatment for the purpose of surrogate mother, the applicant cannot apply for this visa.

This visa allows the applicant to:

Stay in Australia for medical treatment;

Studying in Australia for no more than three months, unless the applicant is under the age of 18, or his personal situation changes during his stay in Australia;

The applicant travels to Australia with this visa:

1. Enter Australia once until his medical plan is completed; or

2. Multiple entry into Australia before the visa expires.

If the visa held by the applicant has an "unexpected stay" clause, the applicant cannot apply for the visa.

If the applicant wants to apply for a new passport, please be sure to apply for a new passport before applying for a visa. The passport number provided by the applicant in the visa application will be associated with his visa. Applicants must go to Australia with this passport.
