Its characteristic is that "the north, south, east and west are all painted with water, and the autumn mountains and flowers cover them one by one, just like a painting." In addition, the love story between the talented scholar Maoxiang (also known as Pijiang) and the famous prostitute Dong Xiaowan in Jinling in the late Ming Dynasty was widely circulated at home and abroad, and the Water Painting Garden also became famous far and wide. The Water Painting Garden was first built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty as a villa in Mao Guanyi. It was completed during the four generations of Mao Pijiang. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, Mao Bijiang was disheartened, so he changed the name of Shui Hui Garden to Shui Hui An and decided to live in seclusion and not be an official. At that time, celebrities such as Qian Chenyi, Wu Weiye, Wang Shizhen, Kong Shangren, Chen Weisong and others came to Rugao to gather together and sing poems in the garden. The Water Painting Garden was very popular for a while.

Today's Shuihui Garden consists of three parts: People's Park, Yuxiang Temple and Shuiming Tower. People's Park is located in the east. The central part of the park is the Yiyuan ruins, the southern part is the Huling Garden ruins, and the northern part is the Shuihua Garden ruins. Yuxiangan and Shuiminglou are in the west, forming an overall building complex and forming a system of its own. There are two stone lions squatting on both sides of the door, and a horizontal plaque with "Water Painting Garden" on the door. The layout of Shuiming Tower and Yuxiang'an complex is unique, integrating the characteristics of northern and southern gardens in my country, and is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architectural art.
