Jilin Wula Street: the birthplace of the Manchu Dynasty. The melons are especially delicious and the winter scenery is world-renowned.
Today, the Chief Village Woman of the Rat Emperor talks to everyone about the birthplace of the Manchu Qing Dynasty - Wula Street in Jilin.
I believe that many Chinese people’s concept of Wula Street is: rime. Indeed, rime is a proud business card of Wula Street. But, you know what? The most awesome thing about Wula Street is far more than just the rime. It is the birthplace of the Manchu dynasty, which is very important in Chinese history.
From a geographical point of view, Wula Street Manchu Town (hereinafter referred to as Wula Street) is located 30 kilometers north of Jilin City, Jilin Province. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is bordered by water on one side. From a Feng Shui perspective, it looks like a A blessed place that breeds auspiciousness. "Wula" is Manchu, meaning "along the river". From its name, we know that this is a small town near the river.
Historically, after the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, the policy of "using barbarians to control barbarians, divide and rule" was adopted for border minority areas. Accordingly, Ula Guard was established in Ula Street. By the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the Jurchen power in Haixi gradually rose. The Ula tribe successively annexed the nearby Jurchen tribes, established the Ula Kingdom, and established Ula Street as its capital. Later, the Ula Kingdom repeatedly fought with Nurhaci, the Jurchen leader of Jianzhou, and was finally destroyed by Nurhachi in 1613. Nurhaci recharged his energy here and then marched to the Central Plains, then conquered the world and established the Manchu Dynasty.
It can be seen that Wula Street is the veritable birthplace of the Manchu Dynasty. Because of this, Emperor Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty immediately sealed off Wula Street within a radius of 500 miles shortly after establishing the capital in Beijing, respecting it as the "holy place of the birth of this dynasty". In the 14th year of Shunzhi's reign in the Qing Dynasty, the ancient city of Wula established the Yamen of the General Manager of Dasheng Wula (a special economic zone responsible for paying tribute to local specialties), which was responsible for offering Northeastern specialties to the royal family. From then on, Wula Street, together with Suzhou, Nanjing and Hangzhou in the south of the Yangtze River, became the tribute base of the Qing Dynasty. Therefore, there is a reputation among the people: "Wula City welcomes Changbai in the distance and Songjiang River in the distance. It is the thoroughfare of three provinces".
In short, this little-known northeastern town in China, which even Jilin people rarely set foot on, is one of the main birthplaces of the Manchu people. There is even a saying among the people: "Ula came first, and Jilin came later."
Since it is the birthplace of a dynasty, the history of Wula Street Town is naturally worthy of being highlighted, and its monuments can naturally occupy a place in Chinese history. At least five of the twelve emperors of the Qing Dynasty left battle traces, footprints or ink marks here.
We took a bus from downtown Jilin to Wula Street. Before we even arrived at the station, the conductor gave her a strong recommendation that there was a historic site just a hundred meters walk from the station. After walking through, we learned that among the many historic sites on Wula Street, the more famous ones include the ruins of the ancient city of Wula, Baihuadianjiangtai, Yuantong Tower, Houfu, Baoning Nunnery, Kueifu, and Safu, etc. (the picture above shows Kueifu).
What the conductor is talking about is Quebec City. Kuei Mansion was a residence granted by the emperor of the Qing Dynasty and a retirement home for a certain prince of the Qing Dynasty.
The gate of Kuei Mansion is closed, and there are overgrown weeds in front of the door. Looking through the crack in the door, we can see that weeds are growing wildly in the courtyard and the old house is in disrepair. There is a small shop next to it that sells some real and fake antiques. Once inside, there are two men sitting shirtless, enjoying a drink.
The village woman came forward to inquire about the current situation in Quebec City. The man said, I don’t have money to repair it, why don’t you invest in it?
The back door of the antique shop leads to the courtyard, but if you want to enter, you have to pay a small "ticket fee". Looking in from this door, you can see everything at a glance, and the word "Demo" on the wall is particularly eye-catching. After scanning a few pictures, he turned around and walked away calmly. What needs to go must go, and you can't force it. If you don't have money to repair it, you respect history and life. If you have money to rebuild it, it's too much trouble. No matter what, it's fine.
After that, we took a taxi to Hantun Village. Hantun Village is a well-known tourist attraction in Wula Street, Jilin City. It is a village with Manchu characteristics. 85% of the villagers are Manchus. It has a strong Manchu cultural heritage, including shamanism, falconry, Manchu catering, and Manchu sports. Entertainment, etc. (The picture above shows a full banquet between Manchu and Han Dynasties).
Hantun Village is not big, but it has a big background. It is said that after the Qing Dynasty established the Central Plains, in order to ensure the supply of materials from the Northeast, the Yamen of the General Manager of the Wula was established in the Manchu Town of Wula Street. In the Qing palace drama, the emperor issued an edict: "Allocation to Ula for hunting animals", which refers to the allocation to this point. The Yamen of the General Manager of Dashou Ula is responsible for collecting Dongzhu, ginseng, sturgeon and other rare materials as tribute. The servants of Wula Yamen gathered here according to their occupations such as fishing and falconry. Villages were formed around Wula Street Manchu Town, and Hantun Village was one of them.
To be honest, if it were not for the "Manchu" card, what I would see when I came to Hantun in the summer was exactly the same as any other village in the Northeast, and I really couldn't see any special features.
The real highlight of Hantun Village is in winter. It is recognized as a good place to watch and photograph rime. So we decided to find a winter time to come here to take photos of the rime.
Since I came to Hantun Village at an unseasonable time, I should at least take a look around and gain some experience. Sure enough, I encountered this thing. Do you know what this is for?
Use drops to dry corn cobs!
The emperor told the village woman that the cantaloupe on Wula Street was very famous, and this season happened to be the best time to eat melons. Sure enough, in Hantun Village, several locals asked us: Are you here to buy melons?
So, we were inspired immediately and quickly ran to a melon field outside the village.
The village woman thought: How can I pass through the melon fields without entering? So, he went in and extended his hand!
After saying hello to the fellow villagers on the edge of the field, the village woman immediately picked two melons and felt very happy.
This little brother is the owner of the melon field. He is also doing the same thing as the village woman and returns home with a full load. I have to admit that the cantaloupe on Wula Street is definitely not fake: it’s so sweet and fragrant.
When I returned to Jilin City that night, I saw this sign. Officer, do you know what "hit" means? (2011-8-3, Wula Street Town, Jilin City)
