Songshan Battle Site

Songshan Battle Site is located in Dasong Mountain, Lameng Township, Longling County. It belongs to the Gaoligong Mountains of the Hengduan Mountains. It is composed of more than 20 peaks and ridges, with an altitude of 2,200 meters. On the top of the main peak, you can overlook the majestic Nujiang Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world, from the north, east and south. The high mountain cliffs on the east bank of the Nujiang River confront the pine mountains on the west bank, forming a natural moat of the Nujiang River where the waves crash against the shore and the peaks fly into the clouds. The famous Yunnan-Burma Highway crosses the Nu River via Huitong Bridge and winds around the cliffs of the mountain for more than 40 kilometers. It has the tendency of "one man can block the pass, but ten thousand men cannot open it". It is the choke point of the Burma Highway and is called "Gibraltar of the East" by American historians.

During World War II, the largest battle in southern China, the Battle of Songshan, was fought here.

The current Songshan Battle Site is mainly concentrated on the top of Songshan Mountain on the east and west sides of Dayakou Village in Lameng Township, covering an area of ??about four square kilometers. Bunkers, trenches, bomb craters, etc. can be seen everywhere on the seven highlands, including the Big Songshan Mountain and the Loess Slope. Among them, the more important footprints include: the remains of our army’s tunnel operations at the main Songshan position and the Big Pit; battlefield sites such as Gunlongpo and Yingquashan; and the remains of the Japanese power station, water pumping station and comfort station, etc. The Longling County Party Committee, government and relevant departments at higher levels attach great importance to the protection and development of the Songshan site. They allocated a special fund of 150,000 yuan to repair the Anti-Japanese Soldiers Cemetery and built 3 monuments, 18 monuments and a road up the mountain. In May 1986, Songshan was listed as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit.

Songshan Battle Site is currently one of the best-preserved World War II battlefield sites. It has been successively identified as a patriotic education base in Yunnan Province, a national key cultural relics protection unit, and the second batch of national red tourism classic scenic spots list. Provincial cross-strait exchange demonstration base, Yunnan Songshan National Defense Town and the second batch of national Anti-Japanese War memorial facilities and heritage sites. In order to fully protect, excavate and utilize the cultural resources of the Anti-Japanese War, and realize the organic combination of protection and development, and the deep integration of culture and tourism, the Longling County Party Committee and Government have included the protection and development of Anti-Japanese War culture, with the Songshan Battle Site as the leader, among the "three pieces" of cultural tourism.
