The Volcanic Mystery of Iceland Tourism —— Lake Mi

Mi Hu (m? Vatn) is also called Lake Mivaden, which means "Mosquito Lake" in Icelandic, because there are so many mosquitoes here in summer. This is a eutrophic shallow lake in northern Iceland. The Resay River introduces the lake from the north to the Atlantic Ocean, and the groundwater seeps into the lower part through the cracks in the rocks to form a lake. The lake covers an area of 37 square kilometers and the water depth is 2.5 meters. It is located in an active volcanic area, not far from Crafra volcano. About 2300 years ago, a large number of basalt lava erupted to form this lake. The lake is mainly surrounded by volcanic landscape, including lava columns and rootless springs. The lake is dotted with volcanic islands, surrounded by craters, hot springs and lava layers. The lake and the rivers flowing through it are famous for producing salmon, trout and red-spotted salmon, and there are extremely rich waterfowl living in the lake area and its surrounding wetlands.

As the fifth lake in Iceland, Lake Mi Hu is one of the most important tourist areas in Iceland. In addition to the beautiful scenery, Lake Mi Hu also preserves a complete volcanic geographical landscape, including geothermal, geysers and craters. Visitors can take a boat trip to the lake, fish by the lake and drive along the way. The surrounding paths lead to lava columns and many small craters. Visitors can also see the naturally formed black boulder bunker, where the lava has a strange shape. There are many kinds of birds in Mi Lake, which is also a paradise for bird watchers. Due to the barrier of mountains, Mihu Lake is considered to be one of the driest areas in Iceland, and the weather is often very good. Because of its rich landscape, Miwa Lake was planned as a special protected area by the government at 1974.

At the foot of the east slope of Hudong Mountain, there is a cluster of dark and rugged rocks. Some of these rocks are like minarets and some are like castles. They are surrounded by a long and narrow valley. Seen from a distance, the crater looks like a magnificent black castle, which is one of the wonders of Lake Mi Hu. It is regarded as a black castle by the locals. It takes half an hour to climb to the top of the mountain on foot. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can overlook the whole Mi Hu Lake and the crater. There is also a conical crater near Lake Mi Hu. The lava in this area is the result of the eruption of this crater. These lava mountains were formed in the volcanic eruption more than 2000 years ago.

From the crater to the east, on the left side of the mountain road is a row of low hills with a wide rock gap. Go along the crack in the rock. At first, it was dark. Gradually, your eyes suddenly opened. Suddenly, there will be an open water surface, which is another scenic spot in Mi Hu Lake District-underground hot springs (M? Vatn lagoon). The water in underground hot springs is kept at around 27℃ all year round, and can be used for bathing all year round. Compared with the famous Blue Lake Hot Springs, it will undoubtedly be cleaner when it opens in 2004. Further east, you will find many gaps on both sides of the highway, the big ones are 1~2 meters wide, and the small ones are one or two feet. Only clouds of steam rushed out of the cave, filling the area with yellow smoke. In the lower part of the lake, the mud is tumbling and steaming, which is the third wonder of Mi Hu-Crafra Lake. The water temperature in the hot gas field is as high as 270℃, which is the cheapest power for power generation. The first geothermal power station in Iceland was built by using the hot air here. After passing the thermal power station, you can visit and hike in Lake Viti and nearby volcanic ruins.

Reykjavik reed is the first choice for tourism in Mi Hu. The main tour groups, passenger service centers, accommodation areas and gas stations are all located here, and the main scenic spots are not far from here, so you can easily enjoy the scenic features of Mi Hu Lake District.
