The economy of the Channel Islands

Tourism has been the most important industry (and some agriculture) in the Channel Islands since 1960' s. Gardening and greenhouse activities in Guernsey are more important than those in Jersey. Compared with Jersey, Guernsey has been developing light industry to stimulate the economy, and Jersey has been relying on finance to maintain its economy since the 1960s and 1980s.

The two administrative regions of the Channel Islands issue their own banknotes and coins, which can be freely exchanged with the British pound. The exchange rate between the pound and the Jersey pound and Guernsey pound is 1: 1.
