Light snow is a season that reflects weather phenomena. The snow is light and there is no snow on the ground. This is the original meaning of Xiaoxue. The ancient book "Qunfang Pu" says: "When it snows, the air is cold and it will snow. The ground is not cold enough and the snow is not heavy." This means that during the Light Snow Festival, due to the cold weather, the form of precipitation changes from rain to snow, but at this time, due to the cold weather, the precipitation changes from rain to snow. The ground is not very cold, so the snow falls rarely and the amount of snow is not large, so it is called light snow.

After the Snow Festival in the northern region, fruit farmers began to prune fruit trees and wrapped the stems with straw braided foil to prevent the fruit trees from freezing. And winter vegetables are mostly stored using local methods, either in cellars or buried in soil to make them easier to eat. As the saying goes, "When it snows lightly, you shovel cabbage; when it snows heavily, you shovel spinach." When cabbage is stored in deep ditches, stop watering about ten days before harvesting, and do a good job of antifreeze to facilitate storage. Try to harvest on sunny days.

After harvesting, dry the cabbage roots in the sun for 3 to 4 days, and store them after the outer leaves of the cabbage become soft. The depth of the ditch is based on the height of the cabbage. During storage, the cabbage roots are all downward and arranged side by side in the ditch. When the weather is cold, cover the cabbage leaves and corn stalks to prevent freezing. When storing semi-mature cabbage, put some water in the ditch, and add soil while adding water. The depth of water and soil should be enough to bury the roots. It will grow and mature when it is eaten.

Light snow is the solar term, and winter begins in the northern part of the south. "The lotus has been exhausted and there is no rain cover, and the chrysanthemums are still covered with frost branches." It is already an early winter scene. Because the Qinling Mountains and Daba Mountains are barriers to the north, they block the intrusion of cold air and reduce the severity of the cold wave, resulting in a significant "warmer winter" in South China. The number of snowfall days throughout the year is less than 5, which is much less than in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River at the same latitude.

Since the temperature near the ground in South China often remains above 0℃ in winter, snow accumulation is more difficult than snowfall. Occasionally, although there are "many waves" in the sky, there is no "broken jade" on the ground. However, in the cold northwest plateau, snowfall usually starts in October all year round. The number of snowfall days in the northwest of the plateau can reach more than 60 days a year, and snowfall is possible throughout the year in some alpine areas.
