Dukang is drunk with wine and Liu Ling

"Only Du Kang can relieve worries." Everyone who makes wine respects Dukang and regards him as the god of the restaurant. Gradually, Dukang became synonymous with fine wine.

Liu Ling, one of the "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove" in the Jin Dynasty, is said to have a relationship with Du Kang!

It is said that Liu Ling is a good drinker and a very good drinker. His drinking capacity is unparalleled in the world. Because he was dissatisfied with the politics at that time, he often traveled and drank.

Once, Liu Ling came to the south of Luoyang and walked to the door of Dukang Winery. He looked up and saw a couplet on the door, writing:

A tiger is drunk in the mountains,

Two dragons sleep on the seabed.

The horizontal sign at the top reads:

If you don’t get drunk for three years, you won’t get any money.

When Liu Ling saw this pair, she felt very unhappy. I thought that the wine shop owner should first inquire about my reputation, Liu Ling, and then think about whether he should praise this place in Haikou. Who knows that I, Liu Ling, drink eastward to the East China Sea, west to Sichuan, south to Yunnan, and north to the outside of the Great Wall. I drank all over the place, and it didn’t make me drunk for a long time. Since you have such a loud mouth, I will drink up all your pots and pans and ask you to close the door within three days.

Liu Ling entered the tavern angrily. Du Kang then took out wine and asked him to drink it. After drinking one glass, he continued to drink. Du Kang advised him not to drink anymore, but he refused. After the second cup, he wanted to drink more. Du Kang said that if he drank any more, he would get drunk. He didn't listen and asked for a third glass. After three glasses of wine, Liu Ling said: "The first glass of wine is as sweet as honey, and the second glass of wine is even sweeter than honey. After three glasses of wine, I feel that the sky is spinning, the earth is spinning, my head is dizzy, and my eyes are blue. It feels like the tables, chairs, benches, and pots and pans are all at home." He was really drunk. He left the wine shop and walked home, swaying here and there, mumbling nonsense.

As soon as he got home, Liu Ling became drunk. He told his wife, "I'm going to die. Bury me in a pool of wine, cover it with lees, and put the wine cups and jugs in the coffin for me." After that, he died. He was a drinker all his life, so his wife buried him as he asked.

Before I knew it, three years had passed. One day, Du Kang came to the village to see Liu Ling. Liu Ling's wife stepped forward to open the door and asked him what happened. Du Kang said: "Liu Ling drank my wine three years ago and didn't pay for it!" Liu Ling's wife was very angry when she heard this and said: "Liu Ling drank someone's wine three years ago and died when he got home. It turned out to be someone else's wine." I drank your wine! You come here to ask for money, and I want to ask you for someone else!" Du Kang said hurriedly: "He is not dead, he is drunk. Come on, take me to the place where he is buried. Let’s take a look at the place.”

They came to the place where Liu Ling was buried, dug the grave, and opened the coffin. Liu Ling was dressed neatly and her face was as rosy as before. Du Kang stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder, shouting: "Liu Ling, wake up, wake up!" Liu Ling yawned, stretched his arms, opened his eyes, and murmured: "Good wine, good wine." Wine!" From then on, "Dukang's fine wine can last for three years" spread.

Some people say that Du Kang and Liu Ling later became immortals and went to heaven. Du Kang deliberately made Liu Ling drunk in a wine shop in order to transform him into an immortal.

Zhuge Liang seeks a bride

Before Zhuge Liang came out of the mountains, he lived in seclusion in Wollonggang, Nanyang. He lived in a thatched hut, opening up wasteland and studying hard at the same time.

There was a Huang Yuanwai under Wollongong who admired Zhuge Liang's talent very much, and Zhuge Liang also respected Huang Yuanwai's knowledge very much. The two of them went back and forth and became friends year after year. They often discussed issues and talked together. knowledge.

Over time, Huang Yuanwai decided to betroth his daughter to Zhuge Liang. He asked a matchmaker to talk about it, but Zhuge Liang did not agree and could not refuse, so he just put it down. It turned out that Zhuge Liang was not happy when he heard that Miss Huang was ugly.

A few days later, Zhuge Liang visited Huang Yuan's wife's house and asked some questions. He reported his name to his family, who said, "Please come in, Mr. Zhuge!" and left without asking him.

Zhuge Liang had no choice but to walk in by himself. When he got to the second door, it was closed tightly. When he knocked twice, the door opened automatically. When he entered, the door closed again. Just when he was wondering and wanted to find out what was going on, two dogs jumped in front of him, barking and jumping up and down at him. Zhuge Liang was so frightened that he dodged left and right, so he was not in a hurry. At this time, a maid ran by, patted the dog's forehead and twisted its ears, and the dog ran away. Zhuge Liang took a closer look and realized that they were two wooden dogs with dog skin sewn on the outside. Zhuge Liang hurriedly asked the girl who did this, but the girl laughed and didn't answer.

Zhuge Liang had no choice but to continue walking in. The third door opened and closed by itself again. Zhuge Liang thought: What can pop out this time? Two tigers suddenly appeared in front of his eyes. They had sharp teeth and wide open mouths. It was very scary. Zhuge Liang was not afraid: it must be fake! So she followed the maid's example and patted the tiger on the head. This was a good pat, and the tiger's tail stood up and his eyes were so wide open that he was about to pounce on him and bite him. Zhuge Liang cannot escape! The maid came over again, patted the tiger's butt, and the tiger croaked obediently.

The maid said: "You are really smart. Are dogs and tigers the same?"

Zhuge Liang was very embarrassed and said: "This deep house is difficult to enter. Please take me through it!" Huan said: "I'm busy!" He waved his finger and pointed over there. There was a panmo over there, being pulled by a wooden donkey. Zhuge Liang was stunned when he saw it, and exclaimed: "Mr. Huang's house is really talented. "Little!"

Zhuge Liang thought, there are still many new things in this, and he doesn't know how much trouble it will cause! When he was hesitating, a girl walked out of the house and said to Zhuge Liang, "Come in with me!" The girl behaved neatly and generously, leading Zhuge Liang to go inside and screwing on various mechanisms at the same time. Zhuge Liang soon saw Huang Outside the membership.

Zhuge Liang asked: "It's not easy to meet you, sir. Who is the capable person who invented those things?" Huang Yuanwai laughed and said: "It's my ugly daughter who does evil things! There are so many ways to frighten you. Disrespectful!" Zhuge Liang blushed when he heard this, and cursed himself in his heart: "You are confused, it is your blessing that such a talented woman proposes marriage to you!" So he hurriedly bowed: "Young lady is extremely talented... I am here to pay my respects to my father-in-law!" Huang Yuanwai burst into laughter.

Later, Zhuge Liang and Miss Huang got married. The two helped each other and learned from each other in many aspects, and they made great progress.

The old man is brave and has ambitions for thousands of miles

In May of the 12th year of Jian'an, Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, Cao Cao defeated Yuan Shao with a small number and a large number in the Battle of Guandu. After that, his military power increased greatly. Cao Cao was also more ambitious. In July of this year, Cao Cao, with the ambition of unifying the north, led his army out of Lulong Village, marched day and night on an expedition to Wuhuan. As soon as the army arrived at Liucheng, they defeated the Wuhuan cavalry and killed Chanyu Tadun. Yuan Shao's sons Yuan Shang and Yuan Xi fled from Liucheng to Gongsun Kang in Pingzhou. After Cao Cao's generals learned about this, they advised Cao Cao to take advantage of the victory to attack Pingzhou and annihilate the Yuan brothers. Cao Cao knew very well that Gongsun Kang and Er Yuan were at odds with each other. If he rushed to attack Pingzhou, they would definitely join forces to resist; if they waited for a while, they would definitely kill each other. So regardless of the advice of the generals, he ordered to withdraw his troops. A few days later, Gongsun Kang indeed sent the heads of the Yuan brothers. In this way, Cao Cao's great cause of conquering Wuhuan and unifying the north was completed.

Just after the Mid-Autumn Festival, Cao Cao ordered his troops to return to the court. After more than ten days of arduous trek, the army finally walked out of the desolate Liucheng and arrived in Changli, Hebei Province. It borders Jieshi to the east and Canghai to the west. Cao Cao stood on the top of the mountain and looked at the sea. At this time, the sun was setting in the west, and the blue sea was shining with golden light; the islands in the distance were looming, and the nearby waves were rolling forward...

Seeing such a magnificent scenery, Cao Cao couldn't help but get inspired by poetry and blurted out: < /p>

To the east is Jieshi to view the sea.

The water is so dull that the mountains and islands are standing tall.

There are many trees and lush grass.

The autumn wind is bleak and the waves are rising.

The journey of the sun and the moon, if it comes out of it.

The stars are as brilliant as if they came from within.

……

After returning to the military camp, Cao Cao was still upset and could not calm down for a long time. He thought: Although Yuan Shao and Tadun in the north have made peace, Sun Quan and Liu Bei in the south are still dominant. The great cause of the reunification of the motherland has not yet been realized. At this time, Cao Cao was already fifty-three years old, but he had the heavy responsibility of history on his shoulders, and the mission of unifying the motherland was still calling him. Thinking about it, his passion became unbearable, and his pride arose again. He strode to the case and wrote:

Although the turtle has a long life, it still has its time.

The soaring snake rides on the mist and turns into ashes in the end.

The old man is brave and ambitious.

The martyrs are full of ambition in their old age.

These two poems express Cao Cao’s positive and enterprising spirit of loving nature, despising destiny, being strong when he is old, and aiming for a thousand miles, and express his heroic spirit of changing reality and unifying the country. Ambition.

Battle of Guandu

Liu Bei fled to Yecheng (the seat of Jizhou, southwest of Linzhang, Hebei). Yuan Shaocai felt that Cao Cao was a powerful enemy and determined to attack Xudu. Tian Feng, who originally advised him to attack Xudu, did not agree to attack immediately. He said: "Now that Xudu is no longer empty, how can we still attack! Although Cao Cao has few troops, he is good at using troops and is versatile, so we cannot underestimate him. I think we should make a long-term plan."< /p>

Yuan Shao refused to listen to Tian Feng. Tian Feng repeatedly advised him, but Yuan Shao thought that he was disturbing the morale of the army and sent him to prison. He sent documents to various states and counties to denounce Cao Cao. In 200 AD, Yuan Shao gathered 100,000 elite soldiers and sent Jushou (Jūyin jū) as the supervisor. He set out from Yecheng to march to Liyang (now Junxian County, Henan Province). He first sent General Yan Liang to cross the Yellow River and attack Baima (now Huaxian County, Henan Province).

At this time, Cao Cao had already led his troops back to Guandu. When he heard that Baima was being surrounded, he was ready to rescue him himself. His counselor Xun You advised him: "The enemy has many soldiers and we have few people, so we cannot fight him head-on. It is better to divide some troops and go west to pretend to cross the river in Yanjin (now northwest of Yanjin, Henan) and lead the main force of Yuan's army to the west. . We will send a light cavalry to Baima to catch him off guard."

Cao Cao adopted Xun You's advice and attacked in the east and west.

Yuan Shao heard that Cao Cao wanted to cross the river at Yanjin, so he sent a large army to intercept it. Who knew that Cao Cao had personally led a light cavalry to attack Baima. Yan Liang, the general of Yuan's army who surrounded Baima, was unprepared and was severely defeated by Cao's army. Yan Liang was killed and the siege of Baima was lifted.

When Yuan Shao heard that Cao Cao had rescued Baima, he jumped in anger. Jushu, the supervisor of the army, advised Yuan Shao to stay in the south of Yanjin and attack with part of his force. However, Yuan Shao was impatient and refused to listen to Jushou's advice. He ordered the entire army to cross the river to pursue Cao's army, and sent General Wen Chou to lead five or six thousand cavalry as the vanguard. At this time, Cao Cao retreated from Baima to Guandu. When they heard that Yuan Jun was coming to pursue them, they ambush 600 cavalry on the southern slope of Yanjin. They asked the soldiers to take off their saddles and let the horses gallop down the hillside, leaving their weapons and armor everywhere on the ground.

Wen Chou's cavalry rushed to the south slope. Seeing this, they thought Cao's army had fled far away and asked the soldiers to collect the weapons thrown on the ground. Cao Cao gave an order, and six hundred ambush soldiers rushed out together. Yuan Jun had no time to resist and was killed in pieces. Wen Chou also lost his head in confusion.

After two battles, Yuan Shao lost two of his generals, Yan Liang and Wen Chou, and Yuan's soldiers were dejected. But Yuan Shao refused to give up and must pursue Cao Cao. Jushou, the supervisor, said: "Although we have more people, we are not as brave as Cao's army. Although Cao's army is brave, they don't have as much food as we do. So we still stick here. When Cao's army runs out of food and grass, they will naturally retreat."

Yuan Shao ignored Jushou's advice and ordered his soldiers to continue marching until they reached Guandu and then set up camp. Cao Cao's men and horses had already returned to Guandu, arranged their battle formations, and stood firm.

When Yuan Shao saw that Cao's army was holding the camp, he ordered his soldiers to pile up mountains of earth outside Cao's camp and build a high platform, so that the soldiers could shoot arrows at Cao's camp from the high platform.

Cao Jun had to cover himself with a shield and walk around the camp.

Cao Cao discussed with his advisers and designed a thunderbolt chariot. This kind of car is equipped with mechanical buttons. The soldiers pulled the trigger and sent out rocks weighing more than ten kilograms, which destroyed Yuan Jun's high platform. Many Yuan Jun soldiers were beaten to death.

Yuan Shao suffered a loss and came up with another idea. He asked the soldiers to dig tunnels secretly in the middle of the night, intending to sneak into Cao's camp from the tunnels and launch a surprise attack. But their actions were discovered by Cao Jun long ago. Cao Cao ordered his soldiers to dig a long and deep trench in front of the barracks and cut off the tunnel's exit. Yuan Shao's sneak attack plan failed again.

In this way, the two sides held a stalemate in Guandu for more than a month. As time went by, Cao Jun's food became less and less, and his soldiers were exhausted.

Cao Cao also couldn't support it anymore and wrote to Xudu to tell Xun Yu that he was ready to withdraw his troops. Xun Yu wrote back, urging Cao Cao to persevere no matter what.

At this time, Yuan Shao's military rations were continuously shipped from Yecheng. Yuan Shao sent General Chunyu Qiong to lead 10,000 troops to transport military supplies, and hoarded a large amount of military supplies in Wuchao, forty miles away from Guandu.

Xu You, Yuan Shao's counselor, heard the information about Cao Cao's food shortage and suggested Yuan Shao to send a small force to bypass Guandu and attack Xudu. Yuan Shao said coldly: "No, I want to defeat Cao Cao first."

Xu You also wanted to persuade him, but someone happened to send Yuan Shao a letter from Yecheng, saying where Xu You's family members were. He broke the law and was arrested by local officials. Yuan Shao read the letter and scolded Xu You severely.

Xu You was angry and resentful. Remembering that Cao Cao was his old friend, he escaped from Yuan Ying overnight and went to Cao Cao.

Cao Cao had just taken off his boots and wanted to sleep in the camp. When he heard that Xu You had come to join him, he was so happy that he had no time to put on his boots. He ran out barefoot to welcome Xu You and said, "Okay! You are here. There is hope for my great cause."

Xu You sat down and said, "Yuan Shao is coming very hard. How do you plan to deal with him? How much food do you have now?"

Cao Cao said: "We can support it for another year."

Xu You smiled coldly and said: "Not that much!"

Cao Cao changed his words and said: "Yes, we can only Support for half a year."

Xu You pretended to be angry and said: "Don't you want to defeat Yuan Shao? Why are you telling lies in front of your old friend?"

Cao Cao had no choice but to say He said honestly: "The food in the military camp can only last for a month. What do you think we should do?"

Xu You said: "I know your situation is very critical, and I came here to send you a message. Now Yuan Shao There are more than 10,000 carts of food and ordnance, all of which are placed in Wuchao. Chunyu Qiong's defense is very weak. You only need to bring a light cavalry to attack and burn all his food and grass. Within three days, he will not fight. Defeated."

After Cao Cao received this important information, he immediately summoned Xun You and Cao Hong and ordered them to guard the Guandu camp. He led five thousand cavalry and marched to Wuchao overnight. Under the banner of Yuan Jun, they encountered Yuan Jun's sentry along the way and asked, saying that they were sent by Yuan Shao to reinforce Wuchao. Yuan Jun's sentry had no suspicion and let them pass.

When Cao Jun arrived at Wuchao, he surrounded the Wuchao grain camp, set a fire, and burned 10,000 carts of grain and grass to nothing. Wuchao's guard Chunyu Qiong hurriedly responded and was also killed by Cao's army.

When the officers and soldiers of Yuan's army who were in Guandu heard about the fire in Wuchao, they were all panicked. Yuan Shao's two generals, Zhang He (sound hé) and Gao Lan, led their troops to surrender.

Cao Jun took advantage of the situation to attack fiercely, and Yuan Jun fled in all directions. Yuan Shao and his son Yuan Tan, who did not even have time to put on their armor, fled north with the remaining 800 cavalrymen.

After this decisive battle, Yuan Shao's main force has been eliminated. Two years later, Yuan Shao died of illness. It took Cao Cao another seven years to wipe out Yuan Shao's remaining forces and unify the north.

Su Wu Muyang

Since the Huns were defeated by Wei Qing and Huo Qubing, the two sides did not fight for several years. They verbally stated that they wanted to reconcile with the Han Dynasty, but in fact they still wanted to invade the Central Plains at any time.

The Chanyu of the Xiongnu sent envoys to seek peace again and again, but some of the envoys from the Han Dynasty went to the Xiongnu to return visits, but some were detained by them. The Han Dynasty also detained some Xiongnu envoys.

In 100 BC, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty was about to send troops to attack the Xiongnu. The Xiongnu sent envoys to sue for peace and released all the envoys from the Han Dynasty. In order to reply to the Xiongnu's goodwill expression, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty sent Zhonglang General Su Wu with a banner, his deputy Zhang Sheng and his attaché Chang Hui on an envoy to the Xiongnu.

Su Wu arrived at the Huns and sent back the detained envoys with gifts. Su Wu was waiting for Shan Yu to write a reply asking him to go back. Unexpectedly, at this moment, something unfortunate happened.

Before Su Wu arrived at the Xiongnu, there was a Han named Wei Lu who surrendered to the Xiongnu after he was sent as an envoy to the Xiongnu. The Chan Yu placed special emphasis on him and made him king. Wei Lu had a subordinate named Yu Chang who was very dissatisfied with Wei Lu. He and Su Wu's deputy Zhang Sheng turned out to be friends, so he secretly discussed with Zhang Sheng to kill Wei Lu, kidnap Shan Yu's mother, and escape back to the Central Plains.

Zhang Sheng expressed sympathy, but he did not expect that Yu Chang's plan failed and he was caught by the Huns instead. Chanyu was furious and asked Wei Lu to interrogate Yu Chang and also find out his accomplices.

Su Wu originally didn’t know about this. At this time, Zhang Sheng was afraid of being implicated, so he told Su Wu.

Su Wu said: "The matter has reached this point, and I will definitely be implicated. If I die after being interrogated, wouldn't it be more embarrassing to the court?" After that, he pulled out his knife and wanted to commit suicide. Zhang Sheng and his attendant Chang Hui were quick to take the knife from his hand and persuaded him to stop.

Yu Chang was subjected to all kinds of punishments, but he only admitted that he was friends with Zhang Sheng and had spoken to him, but he refused to admit being an accomplice with him even to the death.

Wei Lu reported to Shanyu. The Chanyu was furious and wanted to kill Su Wu, but was dissuaded by the ministers. The Chanyu also asked Wei Lu to force Su Wu to surrender.

As soon as Su Wu heard Wei Lu asking him to surrender, he said: "I am the envoy of the Han Dynasty. If I violate my mission and lose my integrity, how can I live in shame?" He drew his sword again. Come and wipe it towards the neck.

Wei Lu hurriedly hugged him, but Su Wu's neck was seriously injured and he fainted. Wei Lu quickly called for rescue, and Su Wu slowly regained consciousness.

Chanyu felt that Su Wu was a man of integrity and admired him very much. After Su Wu recovered from his injuries, Chanyu wanted to force Su Wu to surrender.

Shanyu sent Wei Lv to interrogate Yu Chang, and asked Su Wu to listen. Wei Lu first sentenced Yu Chang to death and killed him; then, he threatened Zhang Sheng with his sword. Zhang Sheng was greedy for life and feared death, so he surrendered.

Wei Lu said to Su Wu: "Your deputy is guilty, and you have to sit down."

Su Wu said: "I am neither an accomplice with him nor a relative of him. Why?" Do you want to sit together?"

Wei Lu raised his sword to threaten Su Wu, but Su Wu remained calm. Wei Lu had no choice but to put down his raised sword and persuaded Su Wu: "I surrendered to the Huns as a last resort. The Chanyu treated me well and made me king. He gave me tens of thousands of subordinates and mountains full of cattle." Sheep, enjoy all the wealth and glory. If you can surrender to the Xiongnu tomorrow, why should you sacrifice your life in vain?" Su Wu stood up angrily and said, "Wei Lu! My son has become a subject of the Han Dynasty. You are ungrateful, betrayed your parents, betrayed the court, and shamelessly become a traitor. I will never surrender, no matter how hard you force me, you have the nerve to talk to me."

Wei Lu went back in dismay and reported to Shan Yu. The Chanyu locked Su Wu in a cellar, deprived him of food and drink, and wanted to use long-term torture to force him to surrender.

It was winter weather at this time, and it was snowing heavily outside. Su Wu suffered from hunger. When he was thirsty, he took a handful of snow to quench his thirst. When he was hungry, he pulled off some belts and sheepskins and gnawed them to satisfy his hunger. After a few days, he didn't starve to death.

Seeing that torture was useless, Chanyu sent him to the North Sea (today's Lake Baikal) to herd sheep, and separated him from his subordinate Chang Hui. They were not allowed to communicate with each other, and he also said to Su Wu: "When the ram gives birth to a lamb, I will let you go back." How can a ram give birth to a lamb? This just means that he will be imprisoned for a long time.

When Su Wu arrived in Beihai, there was no one around him. The only thing keeping him company was the banner representing the imperial court. When the Xiongnu refused to give him food rations, he dug grass roots from wild rats' holes to satisfy his hunger. As time went by, all the tassels on the banner fell off.

Until 85 BC, the Xiongnu Chanyu died, and the Xiongnu had civil strife and was divided into three countries. The new Chanyu had no strength to fight the Han Dynasty anymore, so he sent envoys to seek peace. At that time, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty had died, and his son Emperor Zhao of the Han Dynasty came to the throne.

Emperor Zhao of the Han Dynasty sent envoys to the Xiongnu to ask Shanyu to release Su Wu. The Xiongnu lied that Su Wu was dead. The messenger believed it to be true and did not mention it again.

The second time, the Han envoys went to the Xiongnu again, and Su Wu's follower Chang Hui was still with the Xiongnu. He bribed the Huns, met privately with the Han envoys, and told the envoys about Su Wu's sheep herding in Beihai. The envoy met Shan Yu and scolded him severely: "Since the Xiongnu wanted to make peace with the Han Dynasty, they should not deceive the Han Dynasty. Our emperor shot down a wild goose in the imperial garden. There was a piece of silk tied to the goose's foot, which said Su Wu He is still alive, how can you say he is dead?”

Shanyu was shocked when he heard this. He thought it was Su Wu's loyalty that really moved the birds, and even the geese sent messages for him. He apologized to the envoy and said: "Su Wu is indeed alive. We just put him back." Su Wu was only forty years old when he went on the mission. After nineteen years of torture in the Huns, his beard and hair turned completely white. On the day he returned to Chang'an, the people of Chang'an came out to greet him. When they saw Su Wu with white beard and white hair holding a bare pole banner in his hand, no one was unmoved and said that he was really a man of integrity.

Wang Zhaojun left the fortress

When Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty was in power, the Han Dynasty became strong for another period. At that time, the power of the Xiongnu was declining due to the struggle for power by the nobles. Later, the Xiongnu split, and the five chanyus separated and attacked each other endlessly.

One of the Chanyus, named Huhanxie, was defeated by his brother Zhizhi (zhì) Chanyu, killing and wounding many men. Hu Hanxie discussed the results with his ministers and decided to make peace with the Han Dynasty. He personally brought his men to see Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty.

Hu Hanxie was the first Shanyu to come to the Central Plains to meet with him. Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty entertained him like a distinguished guest. He personally went to the outskirts of Chang'an to greet him and held a grand banquet for him. Hu Hanxie Shanyu lived in Chang'an for more than a month. He asked Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty to help him go back. Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty agreed and sent two generals and ten thousand cavalry to escort him to Monan. At this time, the Xiongnu were short of food, and the Han Dynasty also sent 34,000 dendrobium (pronounced hú, in ancient times, ten dou were equal to one dendrobium) of food.

Huhanxie Chanyu was very grateful and devoted himself to making peace with the Han Dynasty. When the countries in the Western Regions heard that the Xiongnu had reconciled with the Han Dynasty, they also rushed to deal with the Han Dynasty. After Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty died, his son Liu Shi came to the throne and became Emperor Yuan of the Han Dynasty. Within a few years, the Huns' Zhizhi Chanyu invaded various countries in the Western Regions and killed the envoys sent by the Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty sent troops to Kangju, defeated the Chanyu Zhizhi, and killed him.

Zhizhi Chanyu died, and Huhanxie Chanyu's status became stable. In 33 BC, Hu Hanxie Chanyu came to Chang'an again and asked for peace with the Han Dynasty. Emperor Han Yuan agreed.

In the past, when the Han Dynasty and the Xiongnu wanted to get married, they had to choose a princess or a daughter of the clan. This time, Emperor Yuan of the Han Dynasty decided to choose a maid for him. He ordered people to go to the harem to spread the message: "Whoever wants to go to the Huns, the emperor will treat her as a princess."

The maids in the harem are from They were chosen by the people. Once they entered the palace, they were like birds in a cage. They all looked forward to being released from the palace one day. But when I heard that I wanted to leave my country and go to the Xiongnu, I was not happy.

There was a palace maid named Wang Qiang (pronounced qiáng), also named Wang Zhaojun. She was very beautiful and very knowledgeable. For the sake of her own life, she resolutely signed up and volunteered to go to the Huns to get married.

The minister in charge was anxious because no one applied. When he heard that Wang Zhaojun was willing to go, he reported her name to Emperor Yuan of Han Dynasty. Emperor Yuan of the Han Dynasty asked the ministers to choose a date for Huhanxie Shanyu and Wang Zhaojun to get married in Chang'an.

It goes without saying that Hu Hanxie Chanyu was happy and grateful to have such a young and beautiful wife. When Hu Hanxie Shanyu and Wang Zhaojun thanked Emperor Han Yuan for their kindness, Emperor Han Yuan saw that Zhaojun was beautiful and generous, and was somewhat reluctant to part with them. He wanted to keep Wang Zhaojun, but it was too late.

It is said that Emperor Yuan of Han Dynasty returned to the inner palace and became more and more upset the more he thought about it. He then asked someone to take out the portrait of Zhaojun from the portraits of the palace ladies and look at it. Although the appearance is somewhat similar, it is not as cute as Zhaojun himself.

It turns out that after the maids entered the palace, they usually did not see the emperor. Instead, the painter painted the portrait and sent it to the emperor for selection. There was a painter named Mao Yanshou. When he was painting portraits of the palace ladies, the palace ladies would give him some gifts, and he would make the paintings more beautiful. Wang Zhaojun was unwilling to give gifts, so Mao Yanshou did not paint Wang Zhaojun's beauty realistically. Emperor Yuan of the Han Dynasty was furious and killed Mao Yanshou.

Wang Zhaojun left Chang'an under the escort of Han Dynasty and Xiongnu officials. She rode a horse, braved the biting cold wind, all the way to the Xiongnu, and became the Huhan Xie Chanyu's clan. As time went by, she gradually got used to it and got along well with the Huns. The Huns all liked her and respected her.

Wang Zhaojun stayed away from his hometown and settled in the Huns for a long time. She advised Hu Hanxie Chanyu not to start a war, and also passed on the culture of the Central Plains to the Xiongnu. After this, the Huns and the Han Dynasty lived in harmony, and there was no war for more than sixty years.

Not long after Wang Zhaojun left Chang'an, Emperor Yuan of the Han Dynasty died, and his son Liu Ao (sound ào) came to the throne, becoming Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty.
