Why do typhoons favor Guangdong so much?

This morning, Typhoon Mawa 16 was generated in the South China Sea. It is predicted that Mawa will gradually approach the central coast of Guangdong during the day on the 3rd and land in this coastal area, with the intensity of strong tropical storm or typhoon when landing.

The typhoon scene is quite eye-catching on the weather stage in Guangdong this year. As of September 1 day, there are 6 typhoons that have landed in China, among which Typhoon No.2, Typhoon No.3, Tian Ge and Typhoon No.4, Kappa have settled in Guangdong. If Mawa continues to land in Guangdong, Guangdong will be hit by three typhoons in a short period of 12 days from August 23rd to September 3rd, and the intensive landing degree of typhoons is rare in history (only on July 8th 1980, three typhoons landed, and never appeared again).

Gao Shuanzhu, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that typhoons landing in China are generally generated in the South China Sea or east of the Philippines, and Guangdong is on the typhoon path (typhoons generally move to the northwest). In addition, Guangdong is the longest coastal area in China, directly facing the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean, providing a richer "landing site" for typhoons. Its position can be described as "unique", so it is easier to be "caught".

In addition, since the end of August this year, the subtropical high system has been relatively stable, and its position, shape and intensity have not changed much. In addition, the "sources" of the three typhoons are very close, all located in the east of the Philippines and near the northern part of the South China Sea. Because the weather system environment and origin are close, and the three typhoons have similar paths, they will intensively land in Guangdong within 12 days.

Gao Shuzhu said that it is currently in an active typhoon period, and it is expected that there will be another typhoon in the South China Sea on the 5 th, but there are still uncertainties, and the follow-up situation still needs attention.

I hope that Guangdong will take precautions against typhoons.
