The geographical environment of Kelji Town
Kerjian, also called Kuljiayi, is the altered pronunciation of the Uyghur word "Kuljiayi", which means "green land" and mainly refers to a wetland around the town government. English: Korjay Town.
Keljian Town was established in 1984 and is located in the northwest of Toksun County, 50 kilometers away from the county seat. It borders Tuoli Township and Dabancheng District of Urumqi County to the north. The Southern Xinjiang Railway passes through the jurisdiction. Keljia Village, where the town government is located, is 700 meters above sea level and has jurisdiction over three village committees: Keljia Village, Tonggou Village and Yingawati Village. The area under its jurisdiction is about 1,200 square kilometers. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south. Most of it is Gobi barren mountains. The precipitation is low, with an average annual precipitation of 6.3 ml. It belongs to a warm temperate desert climate. Its main characteristics are: sufficient sunlight, abundant heat, cool and pleasant summers, windy and strong winds, severe hot and dry winds, and strong winds above level 8, mostly from the northwest. Warm in winter and cool in summer, the unique climate conditions are very suitable for the development of red deer, native chicken, and other special breeding. There is little precipitation, strong evaporation, large temperature difference between day and night, and long frost-free period. The annual sunshine hours are 4043.3 hours, the total radiation amount is 140-150 liters per square meter, and the annual average temperature is 13.8 degrees. There are many windy weather in spring. There are rivers such as Baiyang River and Panqier River in the territory. The total surface water resources in the town are 100 million cubic meters, and the total underground reserves are 150 million cubic meters. The utilization amount is less than 50% of the total resources.
In 2011, the total population of the town was 2,213, including 1,870 agricultural population and 343 urban population. There are 1,994 Uyghurs, accounting for 90.1% of the total population; 178 Kazakhs, accounting for 8% of the total population; and 41 Han people, accounting for 0.2% of the total population.
In 2011, the town’s cultivated land area was 4,302 acres, and the average cultivated land per farmer was 2.3 acres. The main crops were walnuts, red dates, sorghum, vegetables, grapes and other crops.
