The origin of Grain Rain

The origin of Grain Rain is as follows:

Grain Rain is the sixth solar term of the twenty-four solar terms, and the last solar term in spring, which falls on April 19th-21st of the Gregorian calendar every year. The arrival of solar terms in Grain Rain means that the cold wave weather is basically over, and the temperature rises faster, which is greatly beneficial to the growth of cereal crops.

First, the origin of Grain Rain:

The origin of Grain Rain is explained in ancient books. In twenty-four solar term, it is said, "In mid-March, after the rain, the soil paste pulsates, and now it rains in the valley, and the valley is planted at this time, from bottom to top, hence the name."

This sentence means that in mid-March, after the rain, the land becomes fertile, which is suitable for sowing millet and other crops, and after sowing, a new season of rain is ushered in, which is suitable for grain growth. So in the future, the sowing of grain will be in this solar term, and two things will have the name of "Grain Rain" from the bottom up.

In ancient Grain Rain, the connection between valley and rain implied the meaning of "rain gives birth to hundreds of valleys" and also reflected the agricultural climate significance of "Grain Rain".

Second, the "three climaxes" in Grain Rain

Every solar term has a Theory of Three Represents phenology, and the three climaxes in Grain Rain are:

The duckweed here refers to duckweed, a plant that grows in water and can't stand the cold frost, so when the temperature rises in Grain Rain season and there is enough rain, duckweed gets a suitable environment to grow.

The second-waiting singing dove blows its feathers:

The singing dove here refers to the cuckoo. When a cuckoo blows its feathers, it means that the cuckoo begins to comb its feathers. Because cuckoos can feel the change of the weather, once the temperature is right, they will come to live in the north and then start to arrange their feathers and start courtship. The temperature in Grain Rain season is just right for cuckoo, so there is a saying that the cuckoo blows its feathers in Grain Rain season.

Dai Sheng descended on mulberry:

Here, "Dai Ren" means Dai Sheng bird, and "mulberry" means mulberry. Because Grain Rain is the time for Dai Sheng birds to breed, and its nest is built on mulberry trees. So there is the phenomenon that Grain Rain and Dai Sheng fell to Sang.
