Sandstorms are raging in Beijing. How should we protect ourselves in dusty weather?

A few days have passed since the severe dusty weather, but I still have a lingering fear. When I went out that morning, I felt that my eyes were blurred, as if my eyesight had suddenly dropped. I thought I didn't clean my glasses when I went out. Because we haven't seen sandstorms for several years, the first reaction is how the smog has started again. It suddenly occurred to me that it is summer, how can there be smog? Later, when I arrived at the classroom on the eleventh floor, I found that the scenery behind the whole window was yellow, and the air in the classroom was filled with the smell of earth, which made me start to have a runny nose and realize that it was actually a sandstorm. The photo below is the dusty weather I took on the roof.

Dust weather can cause people's physical and psychological discomfort. Inhalation of tiny sand particles into the body may cause respiratory diseases, and blowing on the face may also harm the skin and eyes. So how should we protect ourselves in dusty weather?

1. Try to stay indoors, and don't go out unless you can. Indoor doors and windows should be closed in time, and the gaps between doors and windows can be blocked with cloth to prevent dust from entering the room. This sandstorm is mainly composed of floating dust, that is, "inhalable particulate matter" PM 10. Appropriately increase indoor air humidity and reduce indoor floating dust. If you have an air purifier at home, you can turn it on.

2. If you must go out, choose the right mask. Medical masks and ordinary gauze masks can filter large dust, but they can't filter small dust, and the protective effect is not as effective as special masks or thick cotton masks with dustproof function. Therefore, it will be safer to wear special dust masks and thick cotton masks. You can wear protective glasses together if you have the conditions.

3. Be sure to stay away from outdoor billboards and other items with low wind resistance, and wear a helmet when riding a bike. This dusty weather is accompanied by strong winds, many trees are broken and billboards are smashed, which has a great impact on personal safety.

4. When going out, try to take subway buses or cars and other vehicles with solid shells.

Now that Beijing has recovered its blue sky and white clouds, the air problem has become an important environmental problem. It is hoped that relevant departments will strengthen dust control and rationally develop resources.
