Why is Vladivostok called Vladivostok?

Sea cucumbers were produced here more than 100 years ago. "崴" means depression, so the Chinese call it Vladivostok. It is located on the east coast of the Suifen River Estuary Bay, in the Shubin Prefecture on the Bohai Sea.

According to Chinese historical records, it was called Yongming City in the Yuan Dynasty and was under the jurisdiction of General Hunchun of Jilin during the Qing Dynasty. It was originally China’s inherent territory. In 1860, Russia forced the Qing government to sign the Sino-Russian Treaty of Beijing, resulting in the cession of more than 400,000 square kilometers of land east of the Ussuri River, including Vladivostok, to Russia. In 1862, the Russian government renamed Vladivostok "Vladivostok", which translated into Chinese means controlling the East.

Climate Characteristics

According to Zhou Shuzhen’s climate classification, Vladivostok belongs to a typical temperate continental humid climate, or a cold temperate continental monsoon climate. Summer is cool and comfortable; autumn is the best season in Vladivostok, with clear weather, abundant sunshine, long duration, and occasional typhoons. In winter, it is affected by the combination of northerly winds from the high latitude polar region and southeasterly winds from the ocean, making it cold and humid with heavy snowfall.

Spring arrives earlier; in summer, affected by polar ocean air masses or morphed tropical ocean air masses, east and southeast winds prevail, making it cool and comfortable, with moderate rainfall and sometimes fog. There are four distinct seasons throughout the year and the weather changes slowly. Because it is close to the Sea of ??Japan, winter and summer temperatures vary less than in inland areas at the same latitude. The daily temperature difference is very small, and it has obvious temperate monsoon climate characteristics.
