The average rainfall in the Yangtze River basin is the highest in the same period. Why is it raining so much today? What is the phenomenon?
As of July 12, the average rainfall in the Yangtze River basin was the highest in the same period of nearly 60 years.
Many netizens have many questions. Why is there so much rain this year? I believe everyone has seen the rainfall this year. Since June, there have been six heavy rainfall processes in the south, and many places have suffered from floods.

The average rainfall in the Yangtze River basin is the highest in the same period in the past 60 years.
According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, since June 1, there have been six heavy rains in the south. As of July 12, the average rainfall in the Yangtze river basin reached 403 mm, 49% more than the normal period, exceeding 20 16 (395 mm) and 1998 (358 mm), accounting for 660.
At the same time, the monitoring shows that on July 8 18, the area of the main body of Poyang Lake and its adjacent waters increased by 352 square kilometers to 4,206 square kilometers compared with that on July 2, which was 20% larger than the historical average (35 10 square kilometers) and was the largest in 10 years. Five tributaries flowed into the Hukou wetland, and a large area was flooded.
On 13, the "pause button" was pressed for heavy rainfall in the south, but from 14, heavy rainfall will accumulate again, and the eastern part of southwest China, Jianghan, Jianghuai and northern Jiangnan will be covered by rain.
The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that from June 5438+04 to June 16, there will be heavy rains and local heavy rains in parts of the eastern part of southwest China, Jianghan, Jianghuai and northern Jiangnan.

The current flood control situation is very severe.
At present, the main stream of the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake, Poyang Lake and Taihu Lake below Jianli are still exceeding the police.
Meteorologists reminded that Yunnan, Guizhou, Chongqing, Jianghuai, Jianghan, northern Jiangnan and other places should pay attention to geological disasters such as floods in small and medium-sized rivers, waterlogging in urban and rural areas and flash floods that may be caused by heavy rainfall; The changes of rain and flood in the Yangtze River basin, Poyang Lake, Dongting Lake and Taihu Lake basin need to attract public attention.
Heavy rains and floods have affected agricultural production in parts of southern China.
The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that the rain will weaken after July 16.
Song Yingbo, a senior engineer at the Center for Ecology and Agrometeorology of the Central Meteorological Observatory, suggested that the southwest region, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River Basin should pay close attention to weather changes, reduce the impact of waterlogging disasters, rationally apply fertilizers, and promote the recovery of affected crops as soon as possible; In the mature early rice area, water accumulation is given priority, and mowing can be done manually when the field is turned, so as to minimize the loss.

What is the phenomenon of more rain this year? Why so many?
Meteorologists said that since June this year, the rainfall in southern China can be said to be continuous, and the rainstorm warning has also appeared repeatedly, with a short-term record pattern. The reason for the heavy rainfall is mainly due to the pattern of "atmospheric circulation situation". The biggest impact on China may not be El Nino, but the huge subtropical high in the northwest Pacific. Under the influence of strong subtropical high, a stable small-amplitude movement is formed.
The southwest airflow on the northwest side of its periphery is just an important channel to transport water vapor to the rainstorm area.
It is precisely because of the formation of this "bridge" that the rich water vapor in the Bay of Bengal or the southern waters of China is transported to the south of China. At this time, the cold air in the north is highly active, which directly leads to the continuous convergence of cold and warm air currents in the south. This is the high frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall.
At the same time, the early arrival of Meiyu this year and the strong Meiyu front are the reasons for the unusually high rainfall in the Meiyu period in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
So the rain falls together, so the rain leads to the formation of extraordinary rainfall.
Li Ming, chief forecaster of Wuhan Meteorological Observatory, also said that this year's rainy season was related to the weak subtropical high moving eastward, which led to the continuous transport of water vapor from the southwest warm and humid airflow to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River along the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. On the other hand, in the rainy season this year, the cold air from north to south is also relatively strong. The cold and warm air just meets in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the tug-of-war continues, forming a narrow rain belt running southwest-northeast, resulting in "violent plum blossoms" in our city.
Seeing the videos and pictures of flood fighting in various places, I believe many people will feel very worried. Everyone wants to do their best to help. Now, I just hope that everyone who is hurt by the rain is well.
