How to protect yourself from lightning when it rains and thunders?

Thunder strikes the head. On a rainy day and you are in the wilderness, it is human nature to hold an umbrella to protect yourself from the rain. But you must remember that if you hear thunder immediately after seeing lightning, it means you are in a thunderstorm environment. You should stop walking, hold your umbrella low and squat down immediately with your feet together. Even if you don't have an umbrella, it is not advisable to run away. Wait until the thunder gradually fades away before you can quickly find a safe place to take shelter from the rain. When traveling, it is better to prepare a raincoat for safety.

Also, immediately squat down on your knees, bend your body forward, hold your knees with your hands, and take off metal objects such as watches and glasses. You can also rely on taller trees for lightning protection in the wild, but remember to stay at least two meters away from tree trunks and leaves. It is not advisable to stay under isolated chimneys, tall metal objects, or telephone poles.

If you are holding metal umbrellas, golf clubs, axes, etc. during a thunderstorm, be sure to throw them away or keep these objects lower than your body. There are also some so-called insulators, such as hoes, which are not actually insulating during thunderstorms.
