As a small animal, the wolf can be said to be at the top of the food chain in the northern grassland. Whether it is the general wild animals or the livestock raised by people, it is the target it captures. My hometown is in the suburb of Shenyang. Before liberation, there was nothing to eat in the fields in winter, and occasionally wild wolves sneaked into the village at night to attack livestock and poultry. According to my father, especially after heavy snow, wolves often go to the village to catch prey. Because of the shortage of land resources and almost no grassland in our area, no one raises sheep. The wolf's main prey is pigs. Although wolves are similar in size to dogs, one or two dogs in our family are no match for wolves. When they saw the wolf, they could only bark a few times from a distance and then retreated. A wolf weighs only a few kilograms, but it can take away more than a hundred kilograms of pigs! I once asked my father why he had such great strength. Dad says wolves are smart. After it climbed into the pigsty, it could be carried away smoothly without pigs. I will try to get the big pig out of the pigsty without killing it. Instead, bite the pig's ear with its mouth, spank the pig with its tail and drag the pig out of the pigsty. Then while biting the pig's ear, he went forward and spanked the pig with his tail. Because the wolf bites the pig's ear, it hurts, so the pig can only walk quickly. If the wolf wants to run, the pig will follow. When you are in the wild, bite the pig to death and eat it. At that time, in winter, my mother repeatedly told us to go home early before dark. As soon as I heard the pigs barking at night, my father quickly put on his clothes and went out with a stick to see if the pigs in the pen were disturbed. If there are signs of being disturbed, hang lanterns and give them something to eat to calm them down gradually. Dad said that wolves are particularly vigilant, "crossing the grass." That is to say, when the wolf walks, if he meets a grass stick across the front, he will walk around. This vigilance is beyond people's reach. This kind of memory has been deeply left in my mind.

When I grow up, I will go to work in western Jilin, which is a semi-agricultural and semi-pastoral area. After the cooperative transformation, the production teams in each village raised sheep. There is a fence around the sheepfold, with corn and orange curtains hanging on it. In order to scare the wolves, the breeder hung some circles of straw rope on the curtains and drew many circles with white powder outside the fence. It is said that wolves are afraid of ropes and circles. When they see these things, they will hide far away and not go forward. This is enough to show that the wolf's vigilance is not only unmatched by other animals, but even human beings are not as good as themselves.

On one occasion, I went to the countryside with the county party secretary, and I went to the Jubao Commune in Taoan County. In Jubao Brigade, several production teams raise sheep. The grassland area of the commune is very large, and there are many sheep in the team. There is a production team, the sheepfold is in the west of the village, and more than 100 sheep are raised. One night, a strong wind blew and damaged a section of corn stalks on the sheepfold fence. The wolf saw this gap, climbed into the sheepfold and killed 100 sheep. The next morning, the breeder found a gap in the corn cob, and he knew something was wrong. When he opened the circle door, he was immediately shocked by what he saw! The whole sheepfold was covered with blood, and the body was bloody and half of the sheepfold was scattered. In a corner, many bodies were piled together. The situation is terrible! The breeder immediately reported to the captain, and the team members heard the news. Twenty or thirty people cleaned up the battlefield, and a dozen bags were picked out just by the sheep's tail.

Afterwards, I asked the breeder why the wolf didn't bite the neck first, but bit off all the sheep's tails. He told me that all the sheep in the team have big tails and are called "sheep fans". Sheep are timid. When they saw the wolf jump into the sheepfold, they flocked to a ridge corner, their heads went in and their tails turned out. All the sheep tails rushed out. The wolf tried to bite his neck, but couldn't find it, so he bit his tail and pulled it out. Wolf's teeth are very sharp, so he won't let go. As a result, the sheep's tail was bitten off After losing its tail, the sheep still tried to get in. The wolf bit the tails of other sheep, and in this way, one sheep's tail was bitten off. When the wolf has eaten the meat and blood, he will leave contentedly. In the sheepfold, there was a bloody killing scene. He also added that this time the wild wolves attacked the sheepfold, it may be that two wolves "committed a crime." Because, the left sheep tail is roughly divided into two piles. Two wolves attack at the same time, just like a game. In less than two hours, 100 many sheep will be slaughtered. Since then, whenever there is strong wind or heavy snow, they will check the sheepfold in time to see if there are any loopholes.

In order to sum up the lessons, the team specially held a member meeting, and everyone made a serious summary of this matter. People agree that the occurrence of this tragedy shows our lack of vigilance in thought. It can be said that this is a contest between wolves and people. Wolf, a wild animal, is as vigilant as human beings. Since then, due to the enhanced awareness of prevention, similar situations have never happened again.

This incident reminds me that in ancient times, many clans and tribes used wolves as totems, indicating that our ancestors had a deep understanding of wolves. Some old leaders of Tao An County Party Committee once recalled the lessons of the early liberation. In the west of Taoan County, there are four or five towns bordering Xing 'an League in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. At that time, there were many wolves on the grassland, and sometimes they attacked cattle and sheep grazing in droves, ignoring the herdsmen at all. Herdsmen organized special teams to fight wolves, ride horses and carry semi-automatic rifles. When they found wolves, they chased them and shot them. A few years later, the number of wolves on the grassland did decrease. However, due to human intervention in the law of the jungle, rodents such as rats and moles (called "blind rats" by locals) proliferated rapidly, and farmland and grassland vegetation were seriously damaged. Due to the sharp decline at the top of the food chain, the number of rodents eating grass roots has soared, and the development of agriculture and animal husbandry has been fatally damaged. From then on, people began to miss wolves. But there is no idea of "keeping the ecological environment in balance".

After the reform and opening up, people's thoughts have been liberated, especially with the meaning of "ecological environment protection", people's concept of wolves has also changed greatly, and they care for birds, animals, insects and fish. Today's grassland is really fragrant with birds and flowers. For example, Xianghai Temple, which borders Tongyu County, taonan city, has a big Xianghai and a small Xianghai, which has become the habitat of many migratory birds. It has even become the hometown of red-crowned cranes and storks. Today, agriculture and animal husbandry there have made great progress. The special forces in many countries are named after wolves, which shows that people have a new worship of wolves. Now we advocate harmony with the natural environment, so we should learn to live in harmony with wolves. It is a basic principle to seek advantages and avoid disadvantages. We should make friends with wolves, but we should also take proper precautions to prevent them from doing harm to human beings!
