The 20-year span of Long Season and the unique perspective of the old man looking back on life have given the master enough space to expand the dimension of suspense, making this suspense drama not only a story between people and families, but also a life story of a generation, and thus extending to a broader theme: exploring the relationship between people and fate, as well as the relationship between individuals and the times.

In the public's impression, "suspense" is often associated with gloom, and "Northeast" is always inseparable from cold winter and heavy snow. The long season has broken these two inherent impressions with audio-visual language. The overall tone of this series is bright and slightly yellow.

Sunlight and autumn leaves are yellow, cornfields and taxis are green, which visually makes the audience feel the warmth, brightness and romance of autumn in Northeast China. The use of lens language in this play is quite artistic. The opening scene slowly shakes from the cornfield, and middle-aged Wang Xiang is driving a smoking train in front of the mirror.

When the camera rolled into the sky and then slowly rolled down-there were no trains and railways, old Wang Xiang drove a taxi across the cornfield. This shot illustrates the changes in Wang Xiang's life. An era is far away, and a generation is old.

The original intention of the long season:

What attracted Xin Shuang at first was the literariness of the script. The story takes place in the northeast, with real details of the times. What is more meaningful is the narrative way of the text. "It is obviously a very heavy thing, but it can be digested with very living things."

When thinking of the northeast, Xin Shuang first thinks of the golden tree in the autumn sun. It's exceptionally high and it's not completely cold. People can wear jackets and coats and walk comfortably outdoors. This is the "long season" that Xin Shuang and Ban Yu want to build.

What Xin Shuang wants to talk about is not a case, nor the so-called "Northeast", but how a person, a group of people, a generation, time and that era passed by them and what traces they left. At first, it was not the script that attracted Ban Yu, but these expressions of Xin Shuang coincided with each other for the core of the script story.
