What is CMMB?

CMMB mainly provides radio and television services for small-screen portable handheld terminals such as mobile phones and PDA, and terminals such as car TV. The main features of CMMB are:

(1) can provide digital radio and television programs, comprehensive information and emergency broadcasting services, realize seamless cooperative coverage through the combination of satellite transmission and terrestrial network, and support public services.

(2) Support mobile phones, PDA, MP3, MP4, digital cameras, notebook computers and small receiving terminals on automobiles, trains, ships and airplanes to receive multimedia services such as video, audio and data.

(3) Mobile multimedia radio and television technology with independent intellectual property rights, the system can be operated, maintained and managed, with broadcasting and two-way service functions, and can be gradually expanded according to operational requirements.

(4) Support the operating system combining the central and local governments, have an encryption authorization control management system, support unified standards and unified operations, and support users to roam around the country.

(5) The system is safe and reliable, has the ability of safety prevention and good expansibility, and can adapt to the development requirements of mobile multimedia broadcasting and television technology and services.

CMMB national planning

Mobile multimedia broadcasting represented by mobile TV should serve the 2008 Olympic Games first, and its advantages can provide users with timely progress and results of the competition anytime and anywhere. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has made it clear that mobile multimedia broadcasting represented by mobile TV will be fully put into operation during the 2008 Olympic Games.

By the end of 2006, the construction of the ground patch test network was completed and the system was tested;

In mid-2007, the construction of the demonstration network of ground connection points has been completed and commercial testing has begun.

In 2008, the satellite system was launched, forming a national network, and officially began to operate, providing services for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Cities covered by CMMB signals

At present, the cities covered by CMMB mainly include municipalities directly under the central government and provincial capitals. In line with the principle of serving the Olympic Games, CMMB also covers 37 Olympic cities listed separately. Signals can be received outside the main urban areas of these cities and in shallow indoor areas with windows. Specifically, it includes Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Kunming, Nanning, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Guiyang, Changsha, Wuhan, Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Shijiazhuang, Jinan, Nanjing, Hefei, Nanchang, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Xi 'an, Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Xining, Lhasa, Urumqi, Hohhot, Chengdu and Haikou.

Advantages of CMMB over other standards

1, CMMB can solve the problem of smooth signal of mobile terminal (mobile TV) by means of satellite communication;

2.CMMB is managed by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, which is responsible for film, television and broadcast carriers, and has rich television content resources. CMMB is also a new media live broadcast carrier for the 2008 Olympic Games.

3. The fee is low, and CMMB takes into account the national media information release function.

According to the characteristics of mobile multimedia broadcasting and television and the needs of business development, CMMB service platform is mainly composed of three platforms: public service platform, basic service platform and extended service platform.

(1) The public service platform is a mobile multimedia radio and television service platform that provides public service to users. It is mainly composed of public welfare radio and television programs, government information and emergency broadcast information. The content playback and services carried out by CMMB public service platform are free services provided to legitimate users.

(2) The basic business platform is a business platform that provides users with basic digital audio and video broadcasting services and data services, including digital audio and video broadcasting services and data services transmitted by satellite platforms and local platforms. The services provided by CMMB basic business platform to legitimate users are paid services.

(3) Extended business platform is a business platform that provides users with extended radio and television program services and comprehensive information services according to their different consumption needs. The services provided are mainly composed of four aspects: first, commercial-oriented radio and television pay-per-view programs; The second is audio-video-on-demand push service, which uses the free time of the system to push the radio and television programs customized by users to the user terminals; Third, comprehensive data information services mainly include stock information, traffic navigation, weather forecast and medical information. Fourth, two-way interactive services, mainly audio and video on demand, mobile entertainment, business services and so on. At present, CMMB mainly focuses on audio and video services, and the comprehensive information, two-way interaction and other services in extended services will be gradually popularized and applied with the development of services.
