Faguang Temple is located in Yudong Town, a blessed land in Fengcheng. It was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573- 1620), with a history of more than 400 years. It is the only ancient temple in the Ming Dynasty in Haimen, and it has always been full of incense.
Haimen Buddhist Association is located in this temple. The predecessor of Faguang Temple was originally a Taoist temple-Dongyue Temple, also known as Donghuang Temple. Later, it was built into Daxiong Hall, with the statue of Dongyue the Great. Later, the back hall, the mountain gate and the east and west side halls were built one after another, with more than 40 halls, covering an area of more than 600 mu, becoming a larger and more prosperous temple in Tongdong area. Since 1984, Yudong Town Government has allocated millions of yuan to repair the temple.
1986 was listed as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in Haimen city. Zhao Puchu, president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, once presented Mo Bao, the Great Hall of Heroes, to Faguang Temple, and inscribed a plaque for the mountain gate of Faguang Temple. Master Zhen Chan, the abbot of the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai, also presented the temple forehead for the mountain gate. 1990 A 100 tripitaka, donated by the provincial Buddhist Association to the Taiwan Province Buddhist Foundation, is now kept in the Great Tripitaka Building. 1992 With the approval of Nantong Municipal Government, Dongyue Temple was changed to Faguang Temple.
At present, Faguang Temple has a unique mountain gate, the Great Hall built in the Ming Dynasty, and the newly-built Tianwang Hall, the Buddhist Scripture Building, the Buddhist Reading Building and the Monk Building. There are more than 50 temples and more than 500 Buddha statues. The Lotus Pond, a famous scenic spot in the Ming Dynasty, has been restored, and ornamental facilities such as pavilions in the lake, zigzag bridges and light corridors have been added. The annual flow of people reaches hundreds of thousands. Visitors from the United States, Thailand, Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan Province also came to visit. In order to further meet the requirements of tourists, Yudong Town Government will increase investment, restore the original Dongyue Hall and 10 wing hall, and plan to build ten landscapes, including mountain waterfalls, dragon and phoenix Zhou Shi, female flute, Fengcheng landscape, forest of steles history, Liu Yin Long Beach, Zizhu Maolu, Longmen Bridge, children's paradise and cultural bookstore, to form a tourist attraction integrating Buddhism, tourism and entertainment.
