Where is Lop Nur located?

Lop Nur, a lake in the southeast of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, is located at the lowest point in the east of Tarim Basin, at the easternmost edge of Taklimakan Desert, in the north of Ruoqiang County and in the southeast of Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, with the center at 40.5 north latitude and 90.3 east longitude. Tarim River, Peacock River, Qierqin River and Shule River converge here, and it is the second largest saltwater lake in China, covering an area of about 2,400-3,000 square kilometers.

Because it looks like a human ear, it is called "the ear of the earth", also known as "the sea of death", and it is also called "Youze" in Shan Hai Jing, and it is also known as Ling Ze, Yanze, Puchanghai, Prison Blue Ocean, Furihai, Linhai, Luopuchi and Luobuchi.

geographical environment

Lop Nur, located in the northeast of Ruoqiang County, was once the second largest inland lake in China, with an altitude of 780 meters. Lop Nur used to have many names, some of which were named according to its characteristics, such as Aoze, Yanze and Ganhai. Some of them are named after their places, such as Pu Changhai, Prison Blue Ocean, Peacock Sea, Luopuchi and so on. After the yuan dynasty, it was called rob naoer. In the middle and late 20th century, due to the decrease of the flow of the Tarim River, the surrounding area was seriously desertified and degraded rapidly until the end of 1970s (before 1970s, it was the second largest saltwater lake in China, and Namco became the second largest saltwater lake in China after Lop Nur, and the first was Qinghai Lake).

River basins such as Tarim River, Peacock River, Qierqin River and Shule River converge here, once forming a huge lake. Since then, the lake has decreased, and Loulan City has become a ruin. 193 1 year, China scholar Chen Zongqi and German geologist Horner made a field survey of the newly formed waters in Lop Nur since the diversion of Tarim River in 192 1 year, and completed the survey of the whole lake area in 193 1 year. The measured water area of Lop Nur is still 2375 square kilometers, and the water source is Peacock River. Extending eastward, it looks like a "boot", 85 kilometers long from north to south, 20 kilometers wide from north to east, and 45 kilometers wide from south to east. The lake is so shallow that some areas can't even sail and sometimes run aground. There is a river connecting Kara and Heshun Lake in the southwest.
