Safe driving methods in ice and snow weather

Driving skills in ice and snow weather

(1) Preparation before driving

When driving in ice and snow areas, you must carry anti-skid items such as snow chains, triangular wood, ropes, shovels and necessary cold-proof items, and pay attention to the anti-freezing of the engine. When conditions permit, you can replace anti-skid tires or install anti-skid chains, or you can wind steel wires on the wheels for short-distance driving. Install snow chains on the driving wheels, which are symmetrical left and right and moderately elastic. After passing through the ice and snow section, clear it immediately to avoid damaging the road surface and tires.

(2) Driving method

When a non-skid vehicle starts in the snow, it can use the method of one gear higher than usual, using the clutch semi-linkage and lightly stepping on the accelerator pedal to achieve a smooth start. When it is difficult to start, you can lay hay, slag, sand and other things under the driving wheel to help you start. When driving in snow, for roads covered with snow, sometimes gullies are covered with snow, and the road outline is difficult to distinguish. When driving, you should judge the driving route according to the reference objects such as trees and telephone poles on both sides of the road, and use the resistance of the engine to control the speed and drive at a low speed. In the rutted road section, you should follow the rut, and the steering wheel should not rush back to prevent the vehicle from slipping off the road. When overtaking or overtaking in snowy days, you should choose a safer section to drive slowly on the right, appropriately increase the lateral distance between the two cars and keep a certain distance from the roadside. If necessary, you can stop at a wider section to make way.

Trailing in the snow should keep a large longitudinal distance from the preceding vehicle, which is generally 1.5 ~ 3 times of normal road conditions. When the front car slows down and the rear car needs to slow down, you can use the method of slowly stepping on the brake pedal intermittently and adding parking brake. Don't press the service brake to the bottom or use the parking brake too fast and too hard.

When the vehicle skids, the steering wheel should be slowly and appropriately turned to the side where the rear wheel skids, and the body can be adjusted by continuously turning the steering wheel several times. When the vehicle travels to dangerous areas such as bends, ramps, river valleys, etc., it is necessary to slowly lift the accelerator pedal in advance, decelerate smoothly, and appropriately increase the turning radius. Don't slam the steering wheel back, so as to avoid turning too early or less and prevent the wheels from slipping.

When you need to stop, you should slow down in advance or change to a low gear and brake slowly. When there is a situation ahead, it is necessary to reduce the speed in advance, switch to low-grade control when necessary, and try to avoid braking.

Precautions:

1, when driving in the snow for a long time, wear colored glasses to prevent glare and affect driving safety.

2, pneumatic braking vehicles, should prevent the storage tank control valve and brake pipe freezing and braking failure.

3. When driving on icy mountain roads, snow chains must be installed. After passing through the icy section, it should be removed in time to avoid damaging the road surface and tires. When driving on a snowy slope, you should shift into a low gear in advance, and don't be too hasty when accelerating to avoid shifting gears halfway.

4. Whether the dangerous roads near the mountain can pass after snow and ice are frozen depends on the thickness of snow and ice, the size of ramp, sharp bend and road width. Stop to investigate if necessary, and don't take risks blindly.

5. To park on the snowy road for a long time, you can choose a suitable place, and you can use wooden boards, branches or firewood to pad the tires.

6. For twin-tire vehicles, if the driving wheel tire is damaged on the way, it is not allowed to continue driving with a single tire to prevent the adhesion area from being inconsistent, resulting in slipping.

7. When driving in dangerous areas such as detours, ramps and river valleys, more attention should be paid to choosing a good driving route. If the road conditions are slightly suspicious, stop immediately and continue driving after seeing clearly and confirming safety.
