Dangshan Yellow River Old Course Provincial Nature Reserve was established with the approval of Anhui Provincial People's Government on February 20 12. The nature reserve is located in the northwest of Dangshan County, Anhui Province. The main body of the nature reserve is the abandoned river course of the old Yellow River and swamps, floodplains and lakes with a width of about 2 km extending along the old Yellow River course to the two banks (the junction of Yuezhuangba at the eastern end and the three provinces at the western end), with a total area of 21.80hm2. The core area is 586hm2, the seasonal core area is 868hm2 and the experimental area is 726hm2. The natural environment in this area is superior and waterfowl resources are abundant. It is an extremely important wetland ecosystem to protect biodiversity, maintain regional ecological balance, supplement urban groundwater and promote social and economic sustainable development.
