Under the town halfway up the mountain, the pier built with red stones along the river is very big. During the boom, merchant ships loaded with goods often docked at the docks. Most of these ships bring cloth, gauze and foreign groceries needed by Sichuan and Guizhou from the downstream, and all kinds of native products and raw and cooked medicinal materials on the border of Sichuan and Guizhou are delivered here for transshipment. When the wooden bamboo raft went down the river, half the river was covered with bamboo. From the scale of the dock, we can imagine the prosperity of Datong town at that time, and the town gradually became the stopping point for salt merchants and cargo ships to replenish supplies and repair sails. Because of this, Datong is the most famous blacksmith shop in terms of time, and small ironware such as nails and iron tips used in old ships have become the main industrial products of Datong. At its peak, there were 60 or 70 blacksmiths in this small town where less than 300 families settled, and their businesses were booming. According to the elders, Datong is rarely quiet. All day long, the tinkling of iron and the whistling of bellows, accompanied by the shouts of ships congratulating the road, are full of excitement.

Now it's all over, the dry road has been built, the goods have been diverted, and the pier stone steps left behind are in a mess. There are no merchant ships berthing now, only the mother and her children are swimming by the sunset-covered river, which will not make this spacious pier lonely.

The blacksmith shop also declined with the departure of merchant ships. There is another one near the road today, and the bellows are no longer pulled. The blacksmith is sweating with bare arms, no longer just playing with the small iron tools used in the ship. Only in the tinkling sound, there is still the excitement of the older generation, and the prosperity of the ancient town can still be turned out.

On the wooden walls of the old houses in the town, the most popular political slogans in the mid-1960s are still hung, and the standard song style written in red paint is far from the exquisite stone carvings on the well-preserved ancestral temple gate opposite. These are the historical stories of this town. There are also some stories about Shao Gong and Shi Niang. The boatman made it at sunrise and returned at dusk. It is a custom and an expression of affection for the boatwoman who greeted him to tie a piece of red silk on the paddle. No wonder there is an ancient Castanopsis carlesii tree halfway up the pier, but its roots are rooted halfway up the hill, and the whole trunk is completely lying in the air, sticking its head out and overlooking the Chishui River.
