The Geographical Environment of Suixi County

Suixi is located in the middle of Huaibei Plain, with a slight slope from northwest to southeast. Except for a few low hills in the northeast of the county, the rest are vast plains. The main landform types are hills, plains, lakes and rivers. Laolongji, the highest peak in the county, is located 5.5 kilometers southeast of Jicaili, with geographical coordinates of 33 56 ′ north latitude and116 54 ′ east longitude. It is 362.9 meters above sea level and 3 Li at the bottom of the mountain.

The plain area is flat and endless, with an altitude of 23.5 to 32.4 meters. It covers an area of about 2,070 square kilometers (excluding water surface and lake depression area), accounting for 85.2% of the county's total area. It is bounded by the ancient Sui Dyke (now Su Yong Highway) that crosses the middle of the plain, with the yellow flood plain in the north and the ancient river and lake sedimentary plain in the south.

There are many lake-closed depressions in southern Suiyuan, mainly distributed in Sipu, Zhude, Tiefo and other areas, all of which are cultivated land. This is a unique landform type in Suixi County, and its cause is related to Suixi Canal. The north dike of the canal is 40 meters wide and 5 meters above the ground, which is tall and complete; The south dike is 20 meters wide and 4 meters above the ground, which is incomplete. When the flood surges in flood season, the south dike often breaks, and the sediment is washed to both sides of the break by water, forming a mound from north to south. Tuling is a yellow floodplain material accumulation, with a width of 500 to 600 meters and a length of 3500 to 5000 meters, which is about 1 meter higher than the ground. The area of Shangmiao Zi Ling, Xiejialingzi, Fengxuzi Zi Ling and San Pu Nanlingzi in Sifu District alone exceeds 20 square kilometers. Between every two ridges, due to long-term water accumulation, a closed lake depression is formed, which is approximately square. There are many such lakes and depressions, commonly known as "Eighteen Lakes", such as Wolong Lake, Liuye Lake, Guanjia Lake, Yinhe Lake, Youzha Lake, Lianzi Lake, Chenda Lake, Liangyun Lake, Qiuhu Lake, Yangjia Lake, Siping Lake, Gushan Lake, Yanming Lake, Fuzi Lake, Baili Lake, Shenjiang Lake, Nanhu Lake and Small Lake. The total area is 86.67 square kilometers. It is characterized by large water accumulation at the bottom of the lake and poor water retention around it.
