1 What is the area of China?

What is the land area of China? The answer seems so clear that everyone can blurt it out and be sure.

1949 On September 2 1, a generation of giant Mao Zedong announced in his opening speech at the first plenary session of the China People's Political Consultative Conference that the people of China had stood up from now on with a Hunan accent that shocked five continents!

It is in this glorious document that goes down in history that the phrase "our superior conditions are 475 million people and 9.6 million square kilometers of land area" became the first publicity of the total land area of China. Since then, from babbling children to rosy-faced birthday girls, they have followed this proverb. That's what the textbook says, and so does the radio, film and television. For decades, people have become accustomed to this "common sense": 9.6 million square kilometers is the total land area of China; China has a total land area of 9.6 million square kilometers.

In fact, this is a wrong concept and number. Under the historical conditions at that time, this was an understandable mistake. In fact, 9.6 million square kilometers is only the land area of China. The territory of a country includes not only land, rivers, lakes and inland seas, but also territorial sea and its continental shelf.

For more than 20 years after 1949, in the absence of measured data, the coastline length of Chinese mainland has been using such a data as "12000km". So, how long is the coastline of Chinese mainland? 1972, the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army of China handed over the task of finding this answer to the navy. After several years of actual measurement, the answer has been found-18000 km. This exciting new data has been officially adopted since June 7, 1975.

The coastline has suddenly increased by more than 6,000 kilometers, which means that the error of the original data exceeds 1/3. Then, in the absence of accurate calculation, will there be shocking errors in the rough calculation of the total land area?

When we say "9.6 million square kilometers", this figure is only the land area of our country at best, not including the vast marine territory.

According to the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, coastal countries not only enjoy "sovereign rights" over the territorial sea of 12 nautical miles, but also over the contiguous zone of 24 nautical miles, the exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles and the continental shelf. According to this convention, the sea area under the jurisdiction of China should be 3 million square kilometers. This 3 million, equivalent to 1/3 of the total land area, is the sacred land of the Chinese nation, just like land. Therefore, the correct data of the total land area under the sovereignty of China should be greater than 1260 square kilometers.

In the future ocean of mankind, the modern blue "enclosure" movement becomes difficult to control in the increasingly sharp and complex.

Islands can enjoy the same rights as land territory. It can have its own territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, which is clearly stipulated in the archipelagic system. If the sea area is demarcated according to this system, then a small island or even a reef plate can get 1500 square kilometers of sea area. As a result, smart people who take advantage of the loopholes in the archipelago system continue to appear. Xiang Zhuang's sword dance is intended to be Pei Gong. Their eyes are, of course, on the charming blue ocean.

From 65438 to 0988, many domestic news media reported that the Japanese government allocated 30 billion yen to spare no effort to rescue its southernmost territory-Okinawa Island. Although Okinawa is crowned as an island, it is actually two reefs which are 0/700 kilometers away from Japan and only have a place in the Pacific Ocean. Due to the long-term erosion of these two reefs, the pillars supporting them are getting thinner and thinner and may be washed away at any time. It seems that the disappearance of two small islands and reefs should not be a fuss for a country, but according to the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, without the existence of islands and reefs, there can be no economic sea area managed by the state centered on the original islands and reefs. It goes without saying that by that time, Japan will not lose two islands and reefs, but an economic sea area under the jurisdiction of the state with an area of 430,000 square kilometers.

Tens of billions of yen, if only for the existence of two reefs, seems to be worth the loss; But compared with the exclusive economic zone with hundreds of thousands of square kilometers, this has obviously become a great move with long-term vision.

The Japanese are smart, and the British are smart. The Malvinas Islands, which consists of more than 200 islands, is by no means a scenic tourist attraction, and the rainy and snowy weather lasts for more than 250 days every year. Bad weather and bad environment make only more than 2000 people survive on the island. 1On April 2, 982, as soon as the news came out that Argentine troops occupied the island, the British people with a strong sense of the sea quickly dispatched 1 17 ships and nearly 300 planes, accounting for 1/2 of its naval force, with a total force of more than 27,000 people, and traveled long distances. With the loss of 17 ships and 19 aircraft, including guided missile destroyers and frigates, 450 people were killed or injured, which cost a huge price of $21600,000, and the island was retaken by force. When some compatriots in our country doubted the correctness of Britain's move, the British people enthusiastically celebrated their proud great victory.

The great ancestors of the Chinese nation not only left us 9.6 million square kilometers of land territory, but also left us 3 million square kilometers of marine territory. As the date of Hong Kong and Macao's return to the motherland approaches, as descendants of the Chinese people, we can say that we have a clear conscience, but we are ashamed of quite a few maritime territories:

-In the fertile South China Sea, at present, except Yongshu Reef, Hua Yangjiao Reef, Dongmen Reef, Nanxun Reef, Chigua Reef and Qibi Reef, the larger islands and reefs in Nansha Islands are occupied by other countries, while Taiping Island is occupied by Taiwan troops. In these sea areas, there are more than 600 foreigners drilling in China's marine land, taking away 65.438+0925 million tons of oil and 265.438+05 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year.

Diaoyu Island has belonged to China since ancient times, but now others have erected a monument on it.

……

Maritime rights and interests will determine the future of a nation and a country. Although this is not from the mouth of any mentor giant, it is a thought-provoking judgment. Countries all over the world are fiercely competing for the ocean, but many of our compatriots still know nothing about the basic national conditions of how much ocean land they own. Please remember the formula of 9.6 million square kilometers+3 million square kilometers =12.6 million square kilometers.
