Will the sea water freeze?

Seawater with high salt content is not easy to freeze at room temperature because the freezing point of seawater is lower than that of fresh water. When the temperature is too low in winter, the seawater will precipitate salt and freeze. The Arctic Ocean is an ocean that freezes all year round. Sea ice is generated in the Bering Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan in the North Pacific Ocean, and the Greenland Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the North Sea and the coast of Canada in the North Pacific Ocean in winter.

In China's Bohai Sea and the northern Yellow Sea, there are different degrees of ice every winter. Near the estuaries of Liaohe River, Haihe River, Yellow River and Yalu River, it is a sea area with severe ice conditions in winter. 1From February to March, 1969, a once-in-a-century ice disaster occurred in the Bohai Sea, and the whole Bohai Sea was blocked by hard ice with a thickness of several tens of centimeters to one or two meters or even nine meters for 50 days. Of the 123 passenger and cargo ships entering and leaving Tianjin Port, 7 were stranded by seawater, 19 was fixed by seawater, and 25 were escaped by icebreakers. The propellers of five 10,000-ton cargo ships were damaged by sea ice, and 1 ship was squeezed by sea ice and burst into the water. The propeller of the pilot ship was also damaged by sea ice, and the hull was deformed, and all the navigation lights were taken away by sea ice. The observation deck of Tianjin Port Authority was pushed down by sea ice, the brace of the support of Offshore Oil 1 drilling platform was cut off by sea ice and collapsed, and the No.2 drilling platform was also pushed down by sea ice. As ice-free ports, tanggu port and Qinhuangdao have also suffered from sea ice disasters and suffered heavy losses.

In winter, the Bohai Sea is often hit by Siberian cold wave, and the temperature drops below the freezing point of seawater, causing large-scale marine disasters. Serious freezing disasters occurred in 1936, 1947, 1957, 1969, 1977 and 1980. In order to reduce the sea ice disaster, the National Maritime Safety Administration deploys anti-freezing and ice-breaking work in Bohai Sea every winter. Navy icebreakers are on standby to go out to sea to break ice, air force planes are on standby to patrol and observe sea ice, and the National Marine Environmental Monitoring and Forecasting Center strengthens sea ice monitoring and forecasting. With the development and application of modern science and technology, the monitoring, forecasting and rescue of sea ice in China will reach a higher level.
